Against some peoples wishes and opinions, I went ahead and built a 4th order for the XXX. The kid wanted to build it free, how could I say no? Don't have all the measurements, forgot them at home but I think the sealed chamber is .5-.6 cubes after displacement, ported chamber is .3ish cubes and port is about 56" long giving a tuning freq. of about 54-55?? port size is 22sq. in. I forget. Curve mimicked .4 cu. ft. box but with 3-5db gain throughout until leveling off IIRC. Criticism always welcome, good or bad. Kinda crappy cell phone pics but, meh. On with the pics.....

i let the guy have his fun building it. It still hits the lows with authority. I was wondering the same thing, but as of now, without playing with the gains/eq too much, I can't complain. After a week of breakin it in, i'll play with it more and tell how it is

Looks good. Have you listened to it yet?
Nevermind.

This??? That's just crazy for a SQish sub. :crap:

I think the tuning of that port is more of a cut-off frequency. Correct if im wrong

Not really that retarded high. In fact, it's reasonable. Consider the fact that the 4th order will allow the subwoofer to freely play some 2 octaves(roughly...??) lower than it's tuned to, that's if I'm not mistaken.
And as he stated in the first post, he wanted a large gain at X frequency, maybe he wanted that larger gain higher but either way he can still tune it with a relatively flat response tuned that high or not.

I see
I don't know too much about 4th order :crap:

How does that design plot out? And have you measured the freq. response?
Looks like he did a good job building it, aside from the port edges not rounded. I probably would have went with more port area also.

When he got done with it, he said he shoulda gone with more port area...kinda late now

nice job man looks good.... that is a bit high for tuning but if it suits the kid who you built it fors tastes then no complaints are you planing on wraping it or painting it at all
