I picked up a JL Audio 15W3v2 on craigslist a few days ago for $40. Not my first pick for a sub but I couldn't pass it up for that price. Looks brand new and the coils measure good on my meter.

I've been telling a friend of mine for a year now I would help him put a little bass in his truck so I guess this one will go to him if I can make it fit. Anyone ever put a sealed 15 behind the seat of a standard cab F-150? I would go get measurements myself but I was gonna surprise him with it.

Manual shows the mounting depth at 8.125". If anyone has an F 150 around that year with a standard cab and wants to tell me the max dimensions I can get behind a seat without having to jack the seat way up and make it uncomfortable to sit in I would really appreciate it.

Just going to be doing a sealed enclosure for him, he doesn't wan't anything crazy loud, just wants some bass with his mids and highs. Will be running about 500RMS to it. Which is the subs rating so should work great.

This is what I came up with. I'm hoping it will work ok behind the seat. It seems kinda deep for a single cab though to me without looking at it :(

JL Audio recommends 2.125 cubic feet of airspace so I'm close. If space permits I'd build it exactly to spec but I get the feeling this thing is gonna be tight if it fits at all.

That will work fine. I have a 99 reg cab and i can get you dimensions if you need them. I put 2.5 cubes behind the paasenger seat so you should be fine.

Hey, thanks for the reply JB. If it isn't too much trouble I would very much appreciate some measurements. How thick can the bottom depth be, how wide can I go behind the passenger seat, etc. I just want to make sure I can fit this in there with no mods and keep the seat usable and pretty comfortable since it isn't my truck. If it's helpful getting measurements he is about 5'11" tall so the seat needs to be comfortable for someone that height and about 170lbs.

Thanks again,
Wayne

Take your time getting measurements. My next day off from work is Wednesday the 9th so that would be my build day for this.

Thanks man, I really do appreciate it. As much as I am not crazy about JL Audio. I'm eager to see how this thing sounds. It's probably been over 10 years since I ran or heard any JL systems.

I know it's not gonna be anywhere near as loud as I am used to, but I'm hoping it at least sounds clean on an old school Rockford Fosgate amp I have for it.

Nice STEAL. was looking for that sub just because it doesnt require tons of watts to play. I love sealed box, sound very clean. but i always end up building ported lol. to be safe i would secretly measure it, measure twice cut once rule.
i want a friend that secretly builds me stuff haha. GL with install

Ha, thanks man. I usually do ported as well. The guy this is for doesn't really care how loud or low it gets, as long as it puts a little bass in his rock music. He already has some nice components up front that sound great, but the poor truck has almost no bass so it really doesn't sound that great.

I don't normally build secret enclosures for friends but I guess it's getting close to Christmas and putting me in the giving mood. :) I have an old Rockford amp and now this JL sub that I would honestly never use, may as well put it to good use.

Been friends with this guy since 8th grade and I am now about to turn 29 years old. He's always helped me out and given me plenty of **** like some furniture and stuff like that when I bought a house a while back. So now I guess it's just time to give something back.

Would be hard to build with no measurements. I guess I need to try to find someone with an F-150 that will let me take some measurements :(
