Flares are expensive when compared to just PVC...I know it's supposed to cut down on port noise, but if you have enough port area it shouldn't be a problem anyway right?

If it is, you can curve it yourself with enough skills in manipulation of materials. There is a specific site that has a detailed tutorial for flaring PCV ports.

No it is fine if they arent flared. You do get a lot more port noise. You can cut a hole the ID of the pvc and then round the mdf in front of it. Idk if that made any sense.
