View Full Version : ?'s before Sealed Q 18's

Gonna build a sealed enclosure for 2 Q 18's.

2004 Tahoe. Subs back or up? I'm thinking back but I get close to the lift gate that way. 21 inches high keeps the amps under the headrest.

I was going to start at 8 cubes per and let displacements knock it down from there. That keeps me the best distance from the lift gate.

I'll pretty much have the amp rack right on top of it.

In for the answer, but I suggest you build 2 boxes and let us know... lol

After all displacements I have 15.3 cubes and 7.65 cubes per.

Thats with subs back. I might go and get some wood tomorrow but I wish had some clamps close by.

Looks like I get to use the high end of the enclosure.

wow that's big. Doesn't Fi recommand these size for ht only? you could runs yours ported.

I did try one at 7ft sealed and it was sounding great. The box was ported prior

I have them ported right now. Thats in a 16 cube at 33. I want to seal em.

At a little better than a sheet I think it would be worth doing anyway. I'm just going with the room I have.

It takes 3 more inches off the gate where the port is now going sealed subs back.

WrenchGuy

Alright, before I go get some wood does anyone else suggest I shrink my chambers?

I think having the room and getting the low end out of the subs is a plus.

I didn't E- Mail Nick but recommended is 4-8 cubes. Nothing stated about what application.

why dont you just shove your port full of **** with the box you have now and see what it sounds like?

Subs would be up. I don't want to tamper with it either.

subs back will just rattle your car regardless of how well you dynamat IMO subs up at the back corner would sound just as good as not give you the extra rattling which can hurt bass performance

Looks like I'm gonna have to experiment.

My box is about done enough to load it. Little bit to go.

I would do 4 cubes NET per subwoofer sealed.

That is the proper size for a sealed 18"... anything much larger and they won't handle much power and won't have much upper end extension.

I've built numerous boxes for a pair of Q18's, including a wall. May favorite was right around 4cubes NET each sealed, on a kicker zx2500.1

Good thing I got room for 10's up front I guess.

I shrunk it a little but I'm netting 7 cubes now. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, that's just ignorant. Lol.

Too bad no one with any knowledge piped up before you built... :(

Oh well I'll see how it goes then.

Seems weird they'd recommend it up there.

Now I gotta buy 2 more subs.....not really though.

They gave general maximum options, nothing specific. It's up to someone with a brain to realize what is best...

I don't see anything wrong with it. When I think your gonna give a hint you turn into the forum hardass as usual.

I sure don't like the idea of going to see the wizard either.

If it don't go well I'll stick aero's in it.

ngsm13

What hint would you like? Seriously.

It's way too gigantic, the idea to add aero's would be best...

I was hoping your criticism would be more constructive....lol

I see where power handling comes into play I guess I'm falling short on the physical aspect of it sorta.

Am I dealing with too big a cushion in there or not enough?

Lol. HUGE sealed boxes mean NO significant power handling. And loose the whole top end of bass sprectrum. Lol. Cut it right straight down the middle, and put two subs in half that box. Give power and rock it.

Well it was said to do just fine in 7 cubes. I had made it already anyway and it sounds great. I might go subs up though still.

ngsm13

Yeah, it shouldn't sound bad at all.

It should hit low frequencies amazingly. But the output and power handling probably suffer.

Anyways, looks good.
