View Full Version : New design...Kind of walling off my hatchback :)

This is what I've got so far...I've got almost 10 cubes gross. Probably going to cut out a small part in the back to mount an amp. I want to do two 15's (modeled in black) and a 10" port (modeled in red). The port is firing up into the open area below the hatch. I want to put a light bend/curve into the port, don't really know how to accomplish that yet, since I'm new to aero's and there isn't a lot of 10" aero stuff online.

It's going to be a wall, but it's still going to be hidden by the removable back deck (Don't want to advertise it) so it will go from side to side completely, but it won't go all the way from the bottom to the top.

Max dimensions: 37W x 19H x (26D top and 32D bottom)

Any input is appreciated :)

Wow no opinions?

Is the 10" port up so close to the front of the box because of the removeable rear deck? And with that height it looks like you should be just able to get enough length to the port to give you a somewhat decent tuning...but you may need to have a longer port to tune lower...which your limited by the height there

Yes, the farther back I move it, the less clearance it has between the port and the hatch.

why not subs up and port back? its gonna be alot easier to mount the subs on the top then the side

There won't be any free airspace behind the box, so if I ran the port back, it would be firing directly into the tailgate (with only an inch or so of distance between the two)

then why are you firing the subs that close also?

Subs are firing forward...

I could possibly fire the subs up, and fire the port forward if that would provide any benefit...but I think subs forward and port up would look better...

i think sub fwd and port up works better then the other way around but i dunno

Kind of a wall...lol, it just doesn't reach all the way to the ceiling...

Oh and here's some pics of the car

The light grey back deck area is removable, it has little strings to attach it to the hatch so when you open it, it lifts up, I just unhooked them so you could see what it looks like.

If your ports are firing up, its not a wall. Like the idiots who seal their trunk off, fire their subs foward, and say they "walled" their trunk car.

Bunch of douchebags.

Well I want to fire everything forward but I don't have enough room on the front :crap:

well your gonna need room for atleast a batt in the back or maybe 2 and like 3kw on 2 12s should be pretty loud

I know, I'm working on the battery situation...the max width I gave is for up near the seats, the trunk widens out back by the bumper, enough so that I think I could put a batt on each side.

I'd slot it or run 3 6's

maybe 4

I don't think there's any possible way for me to slot it with 15's. I also don't think I have room for that may 6 incher's :(

I'll play around in with my model and see what I can do.

bubbagumper6
07-14-2009, 06:02 PM
What if I did (6) 4" ports? lol I could fit all those on the front...

no you cant.

they are 7 in in diameter.

nothing, saturn is running a similar set up and it wangs.

p.s. I sealed my trunk off, I'm not an idiot and i don't call it a wall

bubbagumper6
07-14-2009, 07:23 PM
Yeah I realize it's not a wall :)

If I had some real balls, I could take the front panel to the roof, then put a long port across the bottom...but just not ready to make that kind of commitment in my audio hobby...plus I like using my rear view mirror :)

saturns isnt quite like that.

his subs are in the back seat area....and th eport comes through the rear deck.....

id port it similar to his.

btu with3 6" aeros.

besides

6 4's pretty much = 3 6's

Well I was planning on cutting out some of the rear deck, and replacing it with some kind of screen material to let the air through it easier. I'd really like to keep everything out of sight though...I don't want to attract attention :crap:

also I'd like to see this setup your talking about...got a link?

So let me get this right. You were going to initially only going to use the space behind your back seat?

What do you mean initially? That's still the plan...It may look small but I've got almost 10 cubes of space back there...

Oh ok, thanks for setting me straight. I don't know what I was thinking using a measuring tape and calculator, instead of just asking you. How much space is back there then big guy? I posted the numbers in the first post...go run them yourself

youre right, i only get 9.8 from his numbers.

youre right, i only get 9.8 from his numbers.

Exactly, if I really needed to, I could get more. 9.8 is with a standard wedge box, if I followed the contours of my trunk, I could probably get close to 11. But I don't need that much space, and need somewhere to put batteries. Hell I shouldn't even need 10 cubes...

bubbagumper6
07-15-2009, 08:16 AM
For the battery situation...I'm kind of now realizing I probably don't need to leave my spare tire in there. With a box this size, if I have a flat I don't think it would even be possible for me to get my spare tire out alone (if at all) so I'll probably pull that out, and that would give me enough room for at least 2 batts down there...

skmfkr
07-15-2009, 11:33 AM
yeh eith my fit u wouldnt have been able to get to teh spare tire. my escape the wire is under, but it had like this storare box thing where the jack was i took out and put my batts there and had to raise my box up a little over the batts like 4" then they sit down like 2-3"

whatever...I don't really care anymore, I'm just going to go ahead with my design. You guys have been less than helpful, and have provided no actual input as to why my original design is flawed. The worst that could happen is I build it, and it sounds like ***, in which case I'll tear it down and start over.

Look at how close your port opening is to your sub. That's a major problem.

As in where they exit the box? Because I'm going to have to bend the port, so the internal entrance to the port will be farther away from the subs.

Would one 18" be a better way to go? I would have more than enough room on the front to put an 18" and either a large port, or several smaller ports...
