what is a good 6.5 inch coaxial that is better than rsd coaxials for around the same price. Give or take lets' say.... $20 difference maximum. I can get a set of rsd's for $48 shipped.

You like them better than the rsd's? How much power are you giving them.

if your'e looking @ coaxes then i would look into vifa, you may want to do a search on vifa before you judge them.
vifa/peerless- do make many speakers for other companies.

but if i where you i buy some comps & a amp to start off with.

hmmm I never heard of them and also I did a search on that first speaker and could not find any info about them. At $12 per speaker it sounds too good to be true. Hell even a set of the cheapest flea market coaxials will cost over $25/pair.

Some speakers sold by CDT, Polk, and Alpine are actually re-badged Vifa. They make some good stuff. Get the $12 ones and call it a day. If you wanna stick to the car audio brands, I'd probably get a JBL set.

Well why dont more people buy vifa if thats the case? Also these will be amplified. It seems as the 2 people who gave reviews on the first particular speakers were only powering them with the headunit. Will they distort if I throw an amplifier to them? How much power should I throw to each of the first speakers in the link?

I"m going to jump on the Vifa link. How about some comps? Anything at parts express you would recommend?

RowJoe

Because they don't know any better.

I'm sure they can take their rated 70w fine, just don't clip the signal.

^^those speakers are a buyout price.
you cant compare flee market speakers to Vifa-Peerless-Seas-Morel-HIVi-,Etc...
do you think just because you pay more a speakers it will sound better then something cheaper?
Thats what we are brain washed to beleive in life.
That if you pay more for something then it must be better, then that cheaper brand that you may have not of heard of before.

When i first got into car audio i wasted so much money, buying products from shops that pushed whats good & whats not just to make a buck.
I do buy from Partsexpress.com & Madisound.com now to compare what raw driver sounds good in my set up that i have now.

before you spend your money ask a lot of questions, read & do some research to find whats what in audio.
dont just limit yourself to just Car audio, you can use home driver as well in a car.

If I wired 2 of those speakers together I could run them at 2 ohms right?

It's not quite PE.com, but these guys have been getting great reviews: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17121_Precision+Power+PPI+356CS.html

The crossover seems VERY nice on that set, plus they give you a bunch of mounting hardware for the tweets.

Have you ever heard the first speakers you mentioned? If so were they amplified? How much would you throw at each?

no i havent heard those coaxial speakers, but yes i have heard many sets of vifa speakers.
you will need @ least 70 to 80 rms watts, if your headunit has a xover then you'll need to use it 80-100hz, you wont get a lot of bass from them.

If you dont like them partsexpress wil return them for you.

RowJoe

That's what he's referring to. These won't be midbass monsters. If you want better midbass, you may want to look into a quality component set + sealing and deadening your doors.

i am sealing and deadening the doors anyway? Any other suggestions? Coaxial with good midbass and good tweeters less than $68 per pair.

if you can save up your money for a set of comps you'll be much happier in the long run.

I've had that Pioneer set and while it's not shabby, you can buy this set for less: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-D1720C-6-75-Inch-280-Watt-Speaker/dp/B0015NRQ5S

Sorry man, but I think you've gotta raise your budget if you want a coaxial set with those characteristics.

My bad on the double post.

You really should look into a set of components. For not much more, you could buy a nice set. I would have to say that the best car audio decision I have made was replacing my type-s coxials with a low end set of comps.
