Here are some pictures of our facility. We recently updated pictures to include the fabrication rooms. http://www.jmlaudio.com/vehicle%20bay.htm

Also here is a hidden link to show how we build out the facility from scratch to suit what we were planning and drawing out for years.

They won't work with pre-purchased equipment for a few reasons:

1. They make part of their money on marking up the gear they sell.

2. Working with the same equipment on all their installs, technicians can learn easier and make fewer mistakes.

3. They would be responsible if your gear had a pre-existing issue and didn't work when they installed it. If your amp has a bad component, they install it, and it smokes, they would be liable.

4. If your gear does break, they can warranty equipment through their distributors if they sold it to you.

You're an idiot, and I'm sure they're glad to not have you as a customer.

go somewhere else? audio shops can do whatever they want for their business model. clearly you dont fit in that part, so use your knowledge to do it yourself with the equipment you like, or find someone whos willing to install that equipment for you but dont expect them to be liable in the same context

you may be an electrical engineer, and ive met quite a few engineers, but clearly you dont recognize what a private business is

No, I'm sure there a business like all others, primarily capitalist, and that's a whole other argument!!

What they are after is people with a LOT of money and want a really excellent auto audio equipment and other electronic crap installed. (The more other electronic crap they can sell, the more MONEY they make!)

I am interested ONLY in car audio equipment and I fell in love with Alpine equipment when I had an all Alpine system installed by a now defunct St Louis shop. Hi Fi Fo Fum!! So I researched and bought a bunch of high end Alpine equipment, contacted JML and they basically told me to **** off! So NOW I'm saying SCREW JML!!! And they have a very savvy and smart person very electronically MAD at them!

So with this being the case, why are you not doing it yourself????

I would not install stuff bought through my shop either due to the liability of it. He cant warranty stuff that was bought else where and like said above if something blows or frys your going to point at him. Simple fix, install it yourself.

I started to. I was doing it in stages. Installed all six R-series Alpine speakers myself in the factory locations even though Crutchfield told me they would not fit, and I only found ONE of the six Alpine speakers that would not fit in the factory mount locations in my 2006 Grand Caravan, the top of the dash 5.25 round speaker which required a deeper mounting location that my 2006 Grand Caravan provided. So I set this 5.25" round speaker up about 1\4 inch with electronic chassis spacers using the factory 18AWG (I think) wiring. (What Crutchfield thought/knew was they are all not just simple drop in mounts!) And my next step was installing and wiring up my Alpine CDE-153BT head unit, again through the factory (minimally functional!)) wiring, for now, before stringing 12AWG wires to all six Alpine speakers, mounting the amps, building a subwoofer box, etc.

Liability! The Liability MONSTER!! Got a big bank account you are worried about LOSING? ROFL!!! :-) Not me, I'm poor as dirt! Like most United Statesians right now thanks you our Ownership class of SLAVEDRIVERS! :-(

you dont need to wire each speaker individually, and they make adapters to fit speakers as well as headunit dash kits with hiring harnesses. its really not that hard. one weekend if you're REALLY bad

you're starting to understand why most people dont deal with shops in their area unless they just want to throw money at it. doesnt mean they do bad work, they clearly just want to cover themselves and i dont blame them

Lots of reasonable reasons for them to not install stuff you buy online. Not least of which being the expense of building, maintaining, and keeping the lights on and employees paid in a shop that big and well stocked.

I know plenty of guys in the industry that will tell you to pound sand if you want to go shopping online then try to get them to do some work.

If you are any sort of engineer and have trouble making ends meet you must be absolutely terrible at it or have made some very bad life choices. You think you've got it bad, go try moving to Liberia, Haiti, India, or China and join their middle class and see how that pans out for you.

That said, of course they're worried about getting sued. That's a beautiful looking workshop in their pics and I bet they have a ton of money tied up into building, tools, and inventory. The work they show in their pictures looks show-quality. By my estimation if this guy has got some nice things for himself and his family I'd say he earned them from providing a good service and product that people want. Why does his success upset you so much? If he went out of business next week it wouldn't improve your quality of life any.

handicapped in any debilitating way no, this is similar to how savants have extreme skill and expertise in one area but lack in others. a large majority of the 'good' engineers i went to college with were majorly lacking in social skills but were very quick to catch on when it came to understanding extremely difficult topics

you'd see them either in their room eating popcorn on their computer, at starbucks getting coffee, or in the lab on the computer from midnight to 4am. they literally lived off of popcorn and a mix of energy drinks and coffee. i had a roommate who got sick and didnt go to the clinic for so long because he was so caught up sleeping or on his computer that it become pneumonia and it got me sick. i got better and he was still sick so it got me sick a 2nd and third time resulting in me getting pneumonia and dragging his *** to the clinic. engineers.

Why not try walking into your favorite restaurant with a raw steak some potatoes, a few ears of corn, some lard, flour and buttermilk and tell them you want them to cook your steak, serve it up with a baked potato and whip you up some buttermilk biscuits on the side? You can tell them if they served the cut of steak you liked or used only Idaho potatoes and served corn instead of greens you'd buy theirs but they don't so you demand they prepare yours that you bought elsewhere.

Again, there's many legitimate reasons that shop might not want to install equipment they don't sell (for which they're not authorized sellers/installers) not least of which being liability and certainly including profit motive, why else would they bother waking up in the morning and going to work to deal with arseholes like you all day if not for the paycheck?

Better yet, here in the land of the FREE you're completely free to open up your own shop, fill it with tools and inventory, hire and retain competent help, and install whatever you like whether you sell it or not. You could even go as far as to serve coffee there and have a small internet cafe where customers can order their stuff online that they're going to demand that you install (and warranty). I'm sure that business would just take off and you'd put those other guys out of work in a jiffy.

Food service is very different that car audio. I worked in food service and have my Food Service Sanitation certificate, or did back in the 1980's.

And as I said, I understand the way businesses work! And I know all the reasons why a car audio installation shop might not want to install my prepurchased gear, which is why I'm going with a private contractor audio installer guy who will work WITH me!! He just ordered a bunch of stuff for this install after I gave him a down payment on the job:

https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14333662_1136129439780868_3070895064408060149_n.jp g?oh=13794f4ca14a244a8ed661637e5b5d6e&oe=587EAE5C

Looks like he knows what he's doing!! And I was out at his place yesterday as he and another guy were working on a big ole bass reflex cabinet for another job he's doing made out of 7 ply birch wood, his preferred subwoofer enclosure material.

This is gonna be COOL! :-)

Food service is very different that car audio. .

That analogy isn't far off though. If he uses your unknown equipment from unknown source of unknown quality he is going to be on the hook for the results be it his fault or the "bad ingredients" going in. Also if you bring in something that he deems inferior now his name is being associated with what he feels is an inferior product.

Sticking to what he knows and dealing solely with companies with whom he has a relationship protects him on both ends AND allows him to offer full warranty because he is an authorized seller and retailer. If you saved a buck by buying Alpine online good luck with that warranty. I was talking to a friend this week (an old timer in the industry) who said that Alpine is very tight about who sells online.

Look, this forum is full of guys that buy online, buy used, bargain hunt, and DIY, we don't have a problem with that, but from where I'm sitting that shop seems really nice (I'd literally kill someone to own that woodshop), their work looks impeccable, and I suspect they sell premium brands. There's not a lot of room to run them down because they don't want to deal with online know-it-alls bringing them a hodge podge of equipment demanding they install it then returning once a week when they break things.

I was on the Internet before there was a WWW and I used to post anonymously until I saw when Stevert Case mailed a free AOL CD to anything with a pulse and SAW how unaccountable anonymous postings did the Internet and I started using my real name and still do!

John Kuthe....

Yeah, that philosophy was a real game changer huh?

I learned the best way to get people's attention years ago on the Internet before there was a WWW. I drove an old air cooled VW Beetle and was thinking any getting dual carburetors for ***;s engine, So I went to a Usenewt Newsgroup about VWs and asked a polite question about dual carburetors and got almost NO response! So I decided to take a different approach and posted again entitield "Dual carburetors ****!" and in the message said "Aha! Now that I have your attention..." and got a lot more response!

You people are easy! ;-) So in a sense yes I'm a troll for attention! ;-)

John Kuthe...

rec.autos.vw.aircooled or something like that wasn't it? Yes, I also frequented that newsgroup quite a bit. This association makes me sad.

Yep, rec.autos,makers.VW.aircooled more precisely. Circa 1993ish before there was a widespread WWW (the WWW was just being invented while I was in engineering school) So you frequented to RAMVA too? Ah, those were the daze, eh?

Ever hang around alt.tasteless? That's where I really cut my Internet teeth! Remember the flame war between AT and rec.pets.cats? That was just before I started virtually hanging around the Internet.

Talking about me when you say "she"? BTW I faked or deleted most all my personal info from my Facebook account, including my Facebook "gender"! It's called DISinformation.

I DO know a bit about The Internet. I mean, after all, I'm a "computer engineer" by degrees even though I do not work professionally in that field anymore.
