I am now building Custom Sub boxes for spl competition or daily driver setups. I've been building sub boxes for over 10yrs and am an active competitor with New England SPL, Db Drag and USACi. I have the skills and tools necessary to build you a box specific to your needs and vehicle. No generic prefab china stuff here, built for YOU, one at a time. My focus is on quality so please don't ask me to build a box for $25...
What you will get is a reasonable price on a superior quality box that you'll be proud to show off.

Of coarse pics are available on request and many new england competitors can vouch for my work.

PM me with your requests and I'll give you a quote :)

I have a pic of your 15" comp box on the main page of our website, you definitely know how to build them. I'll throw a bulletin up on our Myspace page letting people know your looking to build some boxes, maybe this will help you out til you can find a job.

I will be at the New England SPL show in Boston this weekend set up next to Steve at the SPL metering tent for anyone interesting in checking out my work. I am building at least one competition box to sell at this show, hopefully I will have time to build more, but we'll see. I will also be competing with my current Octobox in Stock 2 in case you haven't seen it.

Stop by and check out the new box, pics of some work I've done, and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for your time :)

Dave

I certainly don't take time to post up everything, but it should give a good example. Any questions, just ask

I talked o a couple guys at the show that want to get SPL boxes made and told them to talk to you about it, so hopefully they did and you can build them something big and loud. The next couple shows will be better, and shouldn't have to be shutdown.

Just finished another box that will be up for sale. Single 12 box with a unique slot port. 1.8ft net tuned to 40 hz...should be brutal on music and still do well with tones. Dimensions are 22"w x 15.25"h x 19"d so it should work in most vehicles.

Since the classifieds page I put on my website hasn't had anyone submit anything to it, maybe I'll change it and make it a page for your custom boxes. When you get a chance Dave, send me an email with what you would like posted as far as contact info and I'll make a page for you on the NESPL site. I'll resize the pics you have here and put those on the page too. We're getting over 200 hits a week on the site, so maybe this will be helpful.

Mr. Slate
08-07-2009, 04:30 PM
Awesome build. I just have 1 comment if you don't mind. Usually, in designs such as this,
the subs are located all the way forward of the box. It does make a difference sometimes.

spltuscon
08-07-2009, 04:57 PM
I like to try unconventional approaches, but also I think it'll work better for his car. It positions the subs right where I thought they'd do best (in the car I mean). Hopefully I'm right, but box design can defy logic sometimes....so lets hope I made the right decision in this case.

Mr. Slate
08-07-2009, 04:59 PM
What kind of vehicle?

spltuscon
08-07-2009, 05:23 PM
Scion TC. Out of curiousity I had tried to find if anyone had got loud with one, but I couldn't find anything decent. Just show cars, no good numbers, so I went by visual and experience in hatchbacks

Newest project: Four Solobaric L5 fifteens in a conversion van for stock class SPL. Its big...tuned to 40hz since that what the van peaks at:(

Port is a new design I've been thinking about, it should move a TON of air! Another cool part about this port design is that it also braces the top and bottom panels really well. Box is braced on all walls, 45 degree bevels/braces in each corner, and of coarse a double baffle.

Pics anyone?:)

Also, competing in a conversion van in a stock SPL class is almost guaranteed last place everytime.

He's done a lot of metering at my shows, with music, sweeps and tones and his best numbers were using the low 40's tones. He's doing the Amateur classes this year, but plans to move up next year.

Well my new Octobox pulled a 154.4 (usaci) yesterday in CT to take the 601-1800 class in the NE Regionals :)
The bad part was I had only tested my new amp and this box briefly with an ipod...at the show they made me use the official usaci disk and my CD player never let me get out a full burp cause it kept skipping and sending the amp into protect. Bummer...
I did also win Street Beat 4 with a 149.2 avg...not too bad.
The dual 12 box shown in the previous post took 1st for its happy owner in Trunk 0-1000, and the box for 4 Solo L5's (shown earlier in this post) took 2nd in Stock 0-600 only using 2 subs and 1 amp! The winner in the Stock 0-600 and SB2 class was using the design I gave him (he built it)
Overall I'd say it was a **** good day :)

Another good day today for my boxes:cool:

NESPL in Tewksbury, MA...I had 5 boxes at this show in 5 different classes and all 5 took 1st place in their class!

Amatuar 2- Bill G. 144.6db- 1st place
Stock 1- Dave H. 144.5db- 1st place
Stock 3- Henrique V. 147.4- 1st place (with 1 twelve and 1 amp!!)
Stock 4- Dave Lehneman (me) 152.0db  1st place
Super Stock No Wall- Henrique V. 149.5db- 1st place (with 1 fifteen and 1 amp!!)

Set a new personal high of 152.0 legal (also the highest Stock score to date in NESPL) which made me happy.

Congrats to all the competitors, and thanks Steve!

Well, its been a busy week...so here's another one I'm just finishing up. Dual twelve box for a 2005 Impala. Customer is using 2 AQ HDC3's in this with a 4kw amp. Tuned to 40hz for a very loud mix of daily driving and the ability to compete occasionally. Box has a double baffle, 45 degree corners, dowel bracing, and a big smooth slot port. On to pictures...

A little update on Dave's magical box's: He built the winning enclosures for NESPL's 2009 Most Improved Competetor Amature Class and Stock Class (there were no other class's for most improved catagories) and of course built his own enclosure winning NESPL's 2009Competetor of the Year. under the hood I am going to put the little Die hard platinum p1 group 34, in back I think I am going to use the same make but a big p2, but I'll have to get back to you I guess so I can look at it tomorrow, I can measure the post size exactly to eliminate any guess work. I am still up in the air about staying in stock 3 or going no wall next year so that will determine how many batts I can use. If I go nowall i'll be able to have more then 3 so I might have to go with battcap 3000 (or is it 2000 can't rem.) to save weight in my little car, cuz its my daily driver. I'm not making this easy for you huh, maybe you can give me a ball park for a set and I'll just exspect it to be more or give me a price for the p1 bars as that is def. going under my hood cuz I already own it and its in great shape. Thanks, will get the measurements to you asap.

Doing a dual twelve box for a Dodge Charger trunk. Memphis Mojo's tuned for daily driving with a good size slot port. Had some time this week to work on something a little different...a single ten 1/4wave transmission line. It has a 1.3-1 taper ratio in the line and the "tuning" can be altered with the line stuffing. I tested it with the first half of the line stuffed at a medium density and it is amazing  The sound is so clean...as tight as a sealed box but with output like a good ported box. The rolloff is much more shallow than a ported box so it plays deeper for any given "tuning".
I briefly did some SPL testing and it was louder than a lot of dual 12 setups I've metered for others! It really is the ultimate daily driver box! I like it enough that I decided it should be a finished product for a change.

Under construction pic (its hard to tell that there is a taper in the line, but there really is)

SPL Blazer
10-31-2009, 05:43 PM
No screws needed with these boxes. I have one he made and that thing is more solid than a box with screws. I cut my port down a couple weeks ago and I had to cut the wood and bash the f*ck out of it to get the glue to break, the wood broke apart long before the glue let go. Definitely a top notch job building these.

My cuts are dead on and I take my time being very meticulous with the construction. Screws **** IMO...glue done correctly (which it usually isn't) is stronger and way cleaner looking. Also gives the flexibility to router the edges as much as you want.

I dont understand all this hype on your boxes. How can you possibly make me louder lol. OK in all reality I didnt think I could get louder but here are some specs for you guys thinking about having Dave build a box for you.

Prior to my OCTO box I had 2 dual 2 Mojos running at .5 ohm off a DD Z1a with 2 Batcap 3000s with OG 200amp alt in a 8 cube slot port box in a 2000 Jeep Limited. In USACI 601-1800 I was doing a 154.5 and in Street Beats could do mid 153's. In NESPL I was doing a Legal 150.1. I asked Dave to build me a box designed to compete on the glass but also stay legal in 2 diff organizations. Keep in mind Ive tried about 7 diff boxes in the last 3 years and my current setup was by far the best. It took a little over a week to build and I received build pics the entire time. The box was perfect to spec and cleaner then a Nun. When tested on the Termlab and certified at 2 comps I now hit a 155.5 in USACI 601-1800 ( Region 4 record holder ) and a legal 154 even in NESPL ( Tied for the loudest non-walled vehicle in NESPL and Stock 3 record holder ) all with blown window seals. Long story short anyone can build a pretty prefab box but if Dave can make record holding SPL competitors a lot louder imagine what he can do for you.

Been busy this week working on a cool project for a customer...six JL Audio W3v3's in a trunk! Going into an older caprice (box style), partly for SPL and mostly for show. I tried to blend some of both with this design, leaning a little more towards show. Subs will be flush mounted, as will terminals (2 sets), and there are unique ports out both sides at the back. Of coarse the both ends of the ports are well rounded also.

Also, competing in a conversion van in a stock SPL class is almost guaranteed last place everytime.

ive been to two usaci and nespl and have never finished last, i do love my van, and ive turned some heads with it and made people eat there words, my best score with it so far in usaci is 148.2, with one of my amps hooked up i have another one, and also thats with no testin

No disrespect Mega. It just depends on how far you want to go. CRXBPN, and TJ can tell you that the sport has all but deminished. 5 cars in a class isn't a big turnout.
I am happy for you this year, we need some new blood.
Now if this sport grows, and people get serious like we were a few years ago, you will see people in you class with small vehicles.
CRXBPN with his CRX, TJ with his Yugo are loud because
1.They are seasoned veterans and they understand what it takes to win
2.The smaller the interior volume of a car coupled with the pressure within plus a few more factors will produce a higher number.

Yes you did O.K. in your rookie year in this "small area" and you should be commended.
It depends how far you want to go. Are you happy in our area then fine. If you have aspirations of competing on a national level then you are at a giant disadvantage with that van.
An another thing, when you start winning some of the people you beat are gonna want to knock you off. They may up their game next year just to beat you.
Some people are highly competative like myself although the last couple of years I fooled around and wasn't serious.
I'm not going to mention the thousands of dollars I've invested on equipement since I got back in it in 2003.
I've owned a Navigator, a Voyager, a Yugo, an Explorer and an Astrovan all just to compete (2003 to present).
Sorry for the rant, but again if there is anything I can do for you just give a holla.
I'm down with the loudest most established car audio shop in Ct. My dude has won on a National level so again holla at us.

to keep up with what Nate said, back in 05 he had the navigator I believe right... two 18's and a load of American Bass 150.1's maybe? Well you did a 154.0 at the dash, and I come in with two 12's and two 2500d's and nearly beat you with gobs less equipment... i'm def not bragging but cabin area makes a pretty large difference. That box Dave built looks to be a loud daily driver as well, so possibly that is part of the reason it "only" did a 48.2.
What kind of power did you do that # with Mega?
I love the box too Dave, great job... I was able to do a 154.9 or something at the kick usac with my four L7 12's in my RSX in some yucknasty boxes, I bet yours can smoke that...

edit x 3 - lol - I just put my SPL burp boxes for my CRX in my RSX and honestly its the worst sounding setup i've ever attempted to listen to... who really wants to listen to a 60hz tuned box all day? Or has the ambition to swap stuff out every other day? (well I do but family comes first now)... SPLz is fun, but it takes alot of work and years and years (and years and years) of reading and learning. Thats the fun part :)

Its all good. You guys are def right. Smaller the airspace is like free decibels. Although you can be like Team Act Audio and use SUV's in stock classes and destroy the smaller cars but I wont even begin to tell you how much time and money it will take to do so. Every year you MUST get louder and if you really enjoy competing then you should build a car for a class that has a ton of competitors in it. Trust me I hate stock 601-1800 but look at all the guys in that class...Dave L., T-REX Audio, and Team XLA and me all hitting 152's and up. After 3 years in that class Im bored as hell and now its time to kick *** in MOD and SS no wall. Your team did awesome this year and GL next year.

Since I am expanding my lineup, I'm happy to announce that I will build home audio subs by request. Like any of my custom work, I can build it to your specs or simply recommend a great sounding combo for you. I am a dealer for Dayton Audio now and have access to everything they make. I can get the speakers, amps and build a great cabinet in the finish of your choice (or bare if you just don't care) that'll rock your house like it was your car

I will build passive (sub and box only) or active (built in amp) to suit your needs. Its gonna be a long winter, don't be stuck in your house without bass!!

Dave if i may throw at ya This take the back and sides and go 1.5 then take and mark where the port is going to go. Well the width and height of it and run a dato blade and run it down where the port is going to slide so that you can adj it then all you have to do with the face is add one layer the shape of that port and flair it Then you can add any length peace and you can tune it.

Will probably make a difference on the power you want to hit them with. I know most of the Kicker subs have specs for lower power and low bass or more power with a deep bass design.

Never underestimate the power of a smaller sub, a pair of 10's will get crazy loud, four 8's have the potential to get louder, in the right enclosure.

Another box I did last week...(3) DD9515's in a CRV cargo area. Subs up, huge slot port back. Double baffle, 45's in the corners and 3 unique top/bottom/side braces. Main goal was very loud musical setup that would do good on the mic also and fit in the cargo area of a small suv.

I'd add you to our Facebook page, but I guess you can only do that if you have a personal page, not a business page.

One thing, don't jump on the idea of posting an ad on FaceBook. If you do, you have to pay a fee for every person that fans you from the ad. People can fan you from your page, but if they fan you from the ad instead then they charge you for every one of them.

Had a local customer request an Octobox for SPL for a single JL Audio 13W7 driver. He drives a Yukon, so it peaks low at 44hz and required a pretty big box and a long port to make it work out, but I think it came out nice. He was excited like a kid at Christmas when he picked it up...lol

Here is the Octo before mounting to the box or adding the flare.

I'll do a little testing with various styles first, then have you build the final version when I figure out the right sub and port placements. It's gonna be three 12" lvl 4XL's, I'm thinking of two firing up and one either to the side or to the front. So I'll do some testing both ways and maybe something else too before I decide how I'll have them.

This post is a crazy "For Sale" post....my best personal SPL box is up for grabs with or without subs.

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/107/l_5c919c0c5cdb44038ee39b0aefbcbb17.jpg

Dimensions are 35.5"w x 17"h x 26"d, tuning is 48hz with my famous Octoport. Anyone who's heard this knows its crazy on music or tones and it actually sounds good. I did a 152 legal/154.4 outlaw with 4 Type R 12's and 4800w. More power and or better subs would produce better numbers. The box will not be the limiting factor with this;)
This is a drop in SPL box for most SUV's, wagons and maybe some hatchbacks.

Price is $225 empty or $500 loaded with 4 Type R d4's twelves. This is for New England only, I'm not shipping this thing so don't bother asking. Here's the catch: I'm only honoring this deal for this week so move quick!

I've been busy lately on some other projects but figured I'd take a few minutes to share some pics with you. I am launching a new series of boxes called the "Value Series", the idea is boxes designed to work well with as many vehicles and subs as possible to make purchasing easier and less expensive. Nothing beats custom work...let me be clear on that, but these boxes are already designed, built and tested so they are quicker for me to build and that = less labor charges for the customer. I'm never going to sell boxes at prices that beat ebay...I hand build everything myself and this is my profession so it supports my family. I build everything to exacting standards and won't let anything leave my shop that I'm not proud of. I have never had an unhappy customer and most become repeat buyers so that should say something.
I am not turning this into a sale thread so I will not be posting prices here, you can visit my website (http://davetheboxguy.com) to contact me or find more info. Thanks!
