View Full Version : What size/tuning for a 12" BTL?

I think I'm going to build a new box for my BTL...It's in about 1.8^3 right now and I think it's just too **** small...it's borderline too small for the recommendations on FI's site...

Here's what I'm working with: 18H x (30 deep bottom, 24 deep top) x variable width...would like to stay under 18" wide, if I can do 16" it would be great but might not be possible. Just whipping something up, this is what I have so far, front might not be big enough, and the tuning is too low (the calculator won't let you shorten the main port wall), I'd like to stay away from having a second port wall, and that angle is perfect for the back of my seats...any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.

First of all, that calc. isnt very accurate, its been waaaaay off for me sometimes. Read the tutorial on how to design a ported box, it will pay off for sure. Also you need more port area for that volume.
Does the port have to be facing forward? and also what way do you want the sub firing? I can help you some more once I know that...

edit: how much power are you running?

I would prefer to keep the sub and port facing forward...and it's running off 3k

And the tutorial doesn't include anything on how to figure out the port when you have a wedge box.

hmm, ive never been a fan of wedge ports.. if it were me I would try and do port back or up, and sub facing forward.

If you do that configuration and make the box 17" wide you can have a 2.5x15.5" slot port which equals 38.75sq" of port area, 2.5ft^3 net, and a 35hz tuning with a 27" long port.

Why? I like wedge ports...

****, looks nice son. That looks like it's louder than mine and only off 1000 watts? Jeesh, There's a lot of things wrong with my current enclosure. I had to do some modifications to it, because I was in a hurry to drop that BTL in and see how it sounded...unfortunately the box wasn't designed to take a sub that big, or handle that much power...

That's another question, when running a ton of power, what's the best way to run the wires into the box? Most terminal cups are only meant for very small wires, and if I'm running thick 10 or 12 guage to my sub, then the terminal cup is like a bottleneck...

just seems like more of a pain in the *** to build and measure, thats all.
I like simple stuff

to answer your other question use bolts through the box or some all-thread with nuts on each end, then throw a ring terminal on the wire and you can run any size wire you want.

oh and that isnt 1000 watts on that vid, those amps do like 5000@ 1ohm haha

Thats what mine was anyways

Good idea on the bolts...can't believe I never thought of that :D

And I just assumed that was 1000, because it said 500.1, so I figured that was 500 at 1 ohm and 1000 at .5 :P

hehe nope

4700 watts @ 1ohm

Idk at .5 ;)

When using bolts as terminals, how do you seal the hole the bolt goes through so there's no air leakage? And do most hardware store sell that all-thread or something similar?

Man, didn't that Aero have to be hella long?
