In a trunk setup does it matter if the port is on the driver or passenger side?

Well my box was originally designed with the port on the driver side, but the box need to be modified to fit my trunk. When I got it back the only way it would go in was with the port on the driver side, but it sounds fine to me. Would it make a difference if my port was on the driver side?
