I've got a single 12" Type R in about 1.5 cubes sealed right now...it was just a temporary fix when I had to change cars because my old box was WAY to big for my new car :P

Anyway, I want to build a new ported box for it...here's what I have so far

Height: 18" (maxed)
Width: 18" (not maxed, but I'd like to keep it at 18)
Depth: 14" (also not maxed)
Internal Volume: 1.9694 cubic feet (Not accounting for ports)

Ports: 2 Round Ports
Port Diameter: 2"
Port Length: 6.75"
Tuning: 32Hz

Any opinions on this? Never used round ports before, but I just couldn't get a slot port to work unless I made it less than 2" wide :(

Does the fact that those ports are flared change anything?

Was planning on using these (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-348) for the ports.

well when I said I wanted input I meant, advice, not so much comments. Why don't you think it's enough port area? I don't seem to have many options with such a small box.

at least a 4" port, that will give you 12.5"sq that would be the smallest i would try.

If I went with a 4" port, I would only be able to have one and it would have to be 13.87" long, the entire box is only 14" deep so it would be WAY to close to the wall, and I rather not have to worry about bending it.

Once again though, I'm looking for an actual discussion here, why would you go with a 4" port? Because you think bigger is better or is there an actual reason like I'm going to get port noise if I go that small. Not trying to be a **** or anything but this isn't really helping...

A 2" diameter tube has a cross sectional area of only 3.14 sq. in. So even with two of em, that's 6.3 sq. in approx. and that's not really enough for an 8" sub much less a 12" type R. I'd go for 25 sq. in minimum for a slot port. You can get by with less for a round port though so long as you don't put 90* fittings or something crazy on it. Aero's would be even better. But even if you just use PVC, if you run a roundover router bit around the edge, it'll help.

If I were to go with a slot port, and had 25 square inches of port area, the port would have to be 28" long! (that's 16.5x1.5) I would have to turn the port twice...

Then turn the port twice :p:

such a pain in the arse though :P

edit: and I don't know how to calculate bends into port length...
