Last time I had a system, Rainbow was the current boner. I am still looking at the profi kicks (again)...

Curious what the new boner is.

Does it matter?

Hard to beat the value of a paper-coned midbass and textile tweet bi-amped...especially used.

For awhile it was the PG RSD comps, cheap and get loud as hell.

Not really...just exploring what's out there. Depth and needing an angled tweeter mount keep me away from DIY...at least on the home side. I doubt I ever use a passive crossover.

Glad sounding good was a primary concern.

Maybe 6spd will have a group buy to bring the boner back?

i think were between boners at the moment because rainbows went out of style and everyone raved about the PG's, about how they were giving them twice their power and how great they were. then a few weeks later there were like 20 threads about blown tweets, and people couldnt figure out why lol

been hearing alot about the ID XS and CXS lately. look nice but too rich for my blood.

There doesn't seem to be a specific boner right now. Rainbow is still mentioned as is Hertz and CDT. Personally if I had money I would look at DLS, Morel or Dynaudio, possibly some Focal sets.

LPG 25NFA & angle mount kit: http://www.solen.ca/pub/cms_nf_catalogue.php?man=16

Vifa also made one, was the tweet in the Alpine Type X's a couple years back, but I think Madisound stopped selling the angle bracket for it.

What do you have for mounting depth?

I looked at the Dyns....a little pricy, but hey.

I had the Hertz Space set...may look at some others.

I just picked up a cheap set. I got the PG RSD5cs. The 6 inch set can be had for the same price as the 5 inch set. $39.99 shipped on Amazon.

There's a Peerless Exclusive that's 5.75", 2.4" deep...I doubt you'd notice the drop in cone area, and would probably help with off-axis response...

I can get something similar to the revs with the alpine midbass. That tweeter won't work for me though, I don't think.

Well, if you're looking to spend some money, Morel's 6" Elite is under 2.5", IIRC :)

Last time I talked to Don, he was averse to Morel in IB applications.

to be a recent boner.

I am leaning strong toward the profi kick. They are only ~$350 (I may have to be sure) and the Cal26 tweeter.

I was speaking for the individual Profi Kick, not including tweeter and crossover.
Some vendors sell the drivers individually.

Two way or three way?

Location? Kick or A-pillar?

Size/mounting depths.

Amps?

2 way active front stage

A-pillar

Tweeter angle mount

Midbass 2.6ish

not purchased yet...really liking the pdx-5, so think ~100wpc (I have seen several birthsheets with this, so it's not unrealistic)

In your price range, you have to look at the Scan deep chamber Illuminator tweeters.

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_229_324&products_id=8498

Of course that's $400 of your $600 right there. But maybe paired with SLS 6.5's or exclusive 7"s it could be done. The Illuminators can cross pretty low.

They have my boner.

If your doing angle mount FG work anyway, I'd go deep chamber because In 2-way I'd want to cross them pretty low.

The vifa mids look OK too.

Wow. Great price. Anyone know if the 6 inch set would be able to work in 02 Toyota Solara? I was going to purchased the 6.5 set and my factory speakers are 6.75 but I would love to save 30 bucks.

According to a vehicle fit guide your car takes 6.5" speakers. If not you can make some MDF rings super cheap.

Like I said according to the vehicle fit guide they say 6.5 is stock and will fit. There may be some sort of special adapter on them that you can take off on the stock speakers that allow it to fit in a 6.75" hole.

My vehicle takes 5x7 / 6x8s

But I am going with 6.5

You can get about 85% of that sound with the Pioneer Premier PRS set. Tweeter is a bit thin to me, but the midrange...at least on the 5.25's that I'm using (direct A/B swap for the 12M's)...is super good at any price.

I've used lots of Rainbow stuff. Meh.....it's ok. Plastic baskets, though? Nice.

And I don't think you're going to be too happy trying to force 2k down the throat of a 1" compact dome.

The Germaniums are not plastic baskets nor are the SLC Kicks I have currently. I've definitely heard good things about the Pioneer PRS sets, especially the mids. My ideal tweeter is the small radius, deep chamber Illuminators or Revelators.
