my pops wants me to get him a new headunit for his boat, hes been through about 4 of them... cant seem to find one that can handle the moisture, so i came across this thing by JBL, its essentially a waterproof faceplate that you can DIN mount, that connects remotely to the rest of the headunit (black box) so that you can install it in a drybox somewhere where it wont be exposed to moisture.

just looking for some thoughts/suggestions... JBL is the only brand ive seen that has this type setup... only runs about $150 and my dads really not concerned with sound quality he just wants a radio he can have in the boat that will last

Seems like a good design, IMO. Just make sure that the unit doesn't over-heat. You might want to put in a cheap temperature sensor. They actually sell them at a lot of places, where it's a cheap digital temperature reader. Put it in said dry box VIA drilled hole with silicone, then place it somewhere by your console so you can check every so often. It's what I'd do.
