My CDT comps are rated for 80w. I'm giving them 80w, but I want to try giving them more power. I'm pretty sure I can bridge my amp to give them 160w each, is this a good or bad idea? Would I safely gain volume or just over work the drivers?

play with it and find out....just adjust the gain knob before you crank them.....so you dont send too much power to them straight off the bat...

Or you can do what I do, drive them until they explode. Then you can buy yet another set and know the limits. Neither smart nor practical, but it does give you your answer.

that's a lot of power to those components. if you do decide to do it, do it with caution.

If you know what to listen for it shouldnt be a problem. I typically run 2-3 times rated power on my speakers. Of course I do it for headroom and NOT volume....SQ competitor.

Sometimes I think I know what to listen for, but I don't know if I really trust myself.

with more power you might want to try to cross them over a little higher, that's if your deck has a xover, if not maybe your amp has a adjustable xover, try 90-100 hz, then bridge your amp, lower your gains on your amp as well.
if your looking for more volume/ loudness have you tired to deadening your whole car???
