ok guys i just bought an 89 civic hatch si a couple days ago. it does need a little work on her but she runs great. 5 speed FTW!!!!! im tired of riding around listening to just a pair of rockford 6 1/2's so i firgured i would throw in the tryp r i have laying around. my questions are:

1) what is the best box confguration for these types of cars? sub up, port back? sub back, port back? :wow:
2) i am only going to be throwing about 400rms to it off a rockford 300-1 so i need some suggestions on a very efficient box if anyone has some input?
3) where are some "must deaden" areas on these cars? i know my back hatch already rattles a little just from driving around so i will have to fix that, but where else?

all input is appreciated. i will try and get some pics with my phone here in a minute.

Sub up port back would be best for a hatch. Also, what size type R? Kind of hard to decide on a box design without knowing that first. Since it will be low on the power though, I'd suggest a larger box with a good amount of port area and maybe a 32-35Hz tune.

its a 12" type r. yeah i dont have the money to drop on a bigger amp just yet but that will come along soon enough. my max dimensions are 30w x 16.5h x 17d. i heard that 38hz tuning was ideal for these subs?

Sub up/port back or sub up/port up.

in a civic hb then I have seen people gain a couple tenths with sub up port up

the guy wanted 1500 but when i went there to test drive it, the speedo was broken and i saw the damage to the rear side of the car. so i gave him 1000 cash and called it a day. its gets amazing gas mileage though.

I've always wanted to get a little car to tinker with, something like an EF EG would be a lot of fun.

this is the only reason i got the car. i want to eventually make it LOUD. but for now this will have to do. it will be getting some body work and getting primered flat black here pretty soon. maybe throw on some rims and a little exhaust and intake and call it a day for a while. till i can get more funds.

no one has any input on box size or tuning? im thinkin like 2 cubes tuned to 38 with 2 3" aero's would be pretty efficient.

I would do 2 cubes at like 33 hz for the R. That car will rattle like a ***** though. My 95 hatch rattles like crazy and I can;t seem to stop it, no matter how much deadening I use

i figured with the sunroof up there it wouldnt move too much. maybe i will make that trip to orlando. i will be up at disney for the whole week of the 4th of july. maybe we could meet up. 2.5-3 cubes sounds a little big. but i guess thats would be really efficient too. i have two 3" aeroes to use so that will help with the space issue.:D

That's too big for a single 12" Only reason you'd go that big is if you were building a EBS box, and you'd need a tune to match, like 25-30Hz.

You can go as low as 1.75cf with the r 12 alpine and still get great sound

for most 12's, i agree. there are 12's that go in 3 cubes though. kicker L7 is an example. old rockford hx2's needed quite a large box also, so there are some 12's that do need that large of a box.
