You will need a trim pannel or endcaps on the amps.
cj407
04-15-2009, 01:56 PM
i plan on a trim panel....going over the top and plexi to see the guts....then making the top trim a seat wit foam cut out so the plexi is still seen but people can still sit back there...even though i have a crx that came with no back seat..**** US version REX

I'm surprised in the smaller setups, I thought I'd see something pretty neat and uncommon. Instead the amps are just screwed on some simple MDF box (or whatever shape), some mdf board, or the back of the back seat.

built this little thing last weekend to house my pair of pdx amps out of leftover mdf and a few scraps of wood. as soon as my fans get here i can carpet it and install everything. it will sit between the sub box and the back seats.

I have this concept thought up for my next amp rack enjoy
http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa177/2fnloud/Orion%20amplifiers/Drawing1-Layout1-1.jpg
The two D-5000's are on the bottom level tilted inward at 10 degrees along the horizontal plane. The two outside HP-4800's are the second level and they are tilted inward at 5 degrees along the vertical plane. The third HP-4800 is the third level with no tilt what so ever. Finnaly the HP4600 is at the same level as the center HP-4800 but tilted towards the front of the amp rack, centered over the front D-5000. I plan on keeping the 1 inch minimum required spacing.
I just don't know if this will be in the back seat area or the trunk.

Haha, that looks familiar. Is that by any chance a 1998-2002 Accord Sedan? I've got the same car. I love having that little door so I can open up my "bass-port" even if the seats are up and I've got people in the back. Quick question though... actually 2 questions :p:
1. I thought about mounting my amp to the back of the seat but I was worried about the screws not holding (not sure what that seat backing is made of) or the screws poking into the seat too far and hitting the people in their backs when sitting in the back seat.
2. It looks like you're running some power with that amp. I'm running two 10's in a ported box and I'm getting the worse possible trunk rattle ever. I don't mean the trunk buzzing and whatnot from just little vibrations, I mean like sheet metal against sheet metal sounding like it's going to tear itself apart. I can't really isolate the problem so I'm not really sure where to start with the deadening process. How did you solve this problem?

Thank you very much, but Macq32's set up looks like it will be just as clean once done.
That setup served me very well in some local comps. Probably the best event was when I lost by 5 install points to a guy from Mr Tunes in Ann Arbor. IDR his name but he has built numerous IASCA national finalist systems...So to lose to him be only 5 points I wasn't dissapointed.
I just hope my next setup is equally impressive

Trak...here this is a quote from Louisiana_CRX...I seemed to gain about .5 db by using the loading wall over open subs...Like you said it helps limits the excursion of the sub but also by doing that it helps force more pressure out the port

04-16-2009, 02:35 PM
i'd like to do something like that but if I switch gear it won't look right with the mdf form fittted
true, but its just a face plate, it would be very easy and cheap to construct something to fit new gear.
It's pretty clean, not nearly as impressive as yours but I really like it. Let me snap a few pictures real quick...

cant wait to get the components bought and doors done....so that i can have all my vocal amps put away and finished....ZX series Phoenix Gold...=******
Now just to find the sub amps and puchase my subs....16 of something....i like my girls younger than 15...;)
Trak...here this is a quote from Louisiana_CRX...I seemed to gain about .5 db by using the loading wall over open subs...Like you said it helps limits the excursion of the sub but also by doing that it helps force more pressure out the port
so why not have the sub facing a wall? port elsewhere. would there be to much surface area of the wall compared to that tiny *** piece of plexi?

Close, its an 04 accord I've ran a 15" FI BL but now i have (2) dd 1510's. I know what you mean about the door but its now pointless for me to open up the door now obviously because there's an amp there lol but yeah if yours is accessible its handy.
My car had the worst rattles also I've pretty much went through the whole deck/trunk area/tail lights and tried to remove the squeaks and rattles over time. My trunk and trunk lid are fully deadened with second skin damplifier.
Spots you might want to check that gave me problems are the rear break light just stuff something between that and the glass. The headliner and trim on the rear deck rattled against the glass also you might want to check your trunk there's a vent in the corner where alot of air pressure escapes and the plastic flap makes a really annoying sound.

it's about 95% completed now. wrapped it in carpet tonight and ran all the wires. i just have to make 2 little trim pieces for the lower corners to cover the wires entering the box. due to the wire connections i could not get it to sit flush so i sank them in a little. i may cut some plexi to go over them or maybe just make a small trim piece for each side, i haven't decided yet. i can see they need a good cleaning now after my dirty fingers were all over them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v621/Represent316/grandprix/FalseFloor.jpg
New one will be the same, But instead of the amp being all the way flushed in, Im just gonna countersink it 3/4" - 1" so that just the top "Domes" are sticking out of the wall. 1200D on one side, 4002 on the pass side. Wires will be ran in grooves cut in the 3/4" false floor. and you'l only see about 1/2" of wiring at the terminal screws of my speakerbox.

we move the sub in and out alot so didn't really wanna bolt it down.
and the bungee holds up just fine been doing so for the past year and a half. A matter of fact, those same bungees were holding a ported box with 2 12's, go figure. :p:

that sounds sweet. i would use Anderson power connectors along with pro audio multi pin connectors for rca and speaker wire. So that way you can have a fully removable console that comes off with two connectors.
