well i did a white paint on primer then ...rustolen (spelling) spray paint. you can tell the texture of the paint by feeling the cap on the paint. then some cheap bright colored craft paints then did a spray on acryllic sealer

I mix my paint to match what I want, and I mix ceiling texture in with it. And just roll it on. Covers very well and looks nice, and is actually durable.

you mix the tecture in and let the paint soak and settle with the tecture for 30 min before you use it.

I use mediam size texture, the more you add, the more tecture there is. I also put about 2-3 coats of primer on too.

Everything is rolled on, except for the port which is rattle can. My way is definately alot cheaper than liner

flat black spray paint. easier to use a spray instead of roller. spray will net you an even balanced look. roller won't.

ok so bondo huh. I am wanting to make a very clean box for my budds explorer. Plan on using just reg house paint rolled on maybe with some texture. Now i need to search to find out what to use i saw latex and another one at wal mart cant remember what it was. Might go with kilz as I've read good things about it. What do you guys use for paint?

I've been playing with some cutout designs like that. You could have easily made the rest of that look good....;)

I can think of some great designs to complement that flare. I only wish I had tools to build that

That's definatley a classy look. Would go well in a "clean look" show car. Does seem a bit impractical for a daily driver though as that would get scratched to hell in a matter of days

Still one of my favorite looks

Depends on what your going for. I usually always lay down base coats using spray paint. If it's an intricate painting something like latex works well, easy to work with, paint over and can provide some cool textured effects.

As for getting rid of seems, I just use some standard wood filler. Be sure to countersink those screws too

Most of my boxes are naked now though as I tend to change alot.

Sadly that's the case for me right now. I rushed to get my last box in and have yet to take it back out to dress it up.

If you still have that box finish it up! Be cool to see another "different" painted box

Waste wood? Dude it's like $25 for a SHEET of it;)

It doesn't seem hard to me. You need a table saw and make sure you set your depth and spacing correct. Once you make the cuts you just apply the clamps and bend(or just straight up mount it). Most people I see will apply a coat of FG resin afterwards. Their's ton's of writeups about it....

Sanding with a very high grit also help to stop the sponge effect of the cuts.

I am going to build new box anyway tuned little higher with a flared port. So will be opportunity to round all edges and paint it with shiny instead of the flekstone.

Just got this thing tuned up a few weeks ago. The rear view didnt last 1 day before it fell off the windshield :D

I run a QSC 1450 on the TC9 and I have a Behringer EP2500 on the T1's. And yea it rattles the siht out of the house. Use it more for music than movies though.

I haven't read everything in here.... but can i get a cliff on how to get a textured paint job look? There's no lowes over here, only home depot and i know they sell some textured paint.

so is it just 1) primer
2) one layer of "textured" paint?
or is it more complicated than this?

how many cans would i need for a 4ft/cu box?
i'm tired of the black cheap carpet that cost too much

This turned out awesome for me:

1) Fill all holes with quick-dry spackle, route all corners/ edges with a simple 1/4" round to take the edge off, sand with an electric sander & big grit paper (no need to really perfect it since we're gonna add a texture anyway)
2) Cover the whole box with spray can of dark gray or black primer
3) Cover the whole box with spray can of dark gray or black "textured" spray paint (color doesn't matter too much, but dark is better in case your box gets bumps or gashes, so a lite color won't show thru a gouge)
4) Again cover the whole box with a final coat of dark gray primer

I know primer is not supposed to be the final coat, but it is for me & works great; It's super flat, no shine, & is perfectly uniform looking. The charcoal looking final color matches my charcoal/ dark gray/ black interior great. Very professional looking if I don't mind sayin' so myself. My friends say "Holy cow, where'd you get the box?"

I was glad this way ended up so good, because I was not looking forward to trying to carpet or upholster it.

Pretty creative technique there. However if your getting an uneven or sloppy texture with your paint your doing it wrong;)

I'll have to try this out sometime though to see if there something to this.....

@Xprime

Just play around on some scrap wood until you get what your looking for. Their are waaay to many things that effect painting especially give your climate vs mine. Try a solid 2-3 coats of primer followed by 1 coat of textured. The type of paint you purchase will play a huge role in the # of coats needed that's why theirs a little bit of guesswork.

Just remember to spray in 1 direction, then altenate to the section below (slightly overlapping) and alternate to the other direction. Keep the hand motion fairly quick and your golden

I'm not quite sure about the something. The mdf piece that glue together always bring some over glue and sink on the side. I usualy wait till its dry then i remove it why a razor, but there's always some leftover. It doesn't really paint well. What should i do for that? same with silicone

If you're talking about extra glue squishing out, just wipe it off with a damp paper towel or cloth as you go. And, after it's dry it sands just fine when you're sanding the rest of the box. Use an electric sander, and sanding is actually tolerable.

Just sand all that with like a 100-150 grit. Sanding in between coats helps aswell

Beside that, the box looks freaking awesome. I spent alot of time on it and once it will be finished, i'll put that in my build
