Hey guys,

Well, the first of two 18's is on it's way tomorrow so I've been wanting to start cementing a plan for the subs and port setup. Im really not wanting to do a full wall, and im going to go with one of the following options. There are ups and downs to each one, which is why im not too sure on my choice yet. Just let me know what you would run and why :)

Option 1: Subs up, port up...this one I think would be my last choice :( I just dont think it would get as loud as the other two..and wouldnt allow a very good setup for an interchangeable port

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Option1.jpg

Option 2: Subs forward, port in the rear window...I just think this would have the most potential to get loud, but since im wanting to try and do an interchangeable port setup, this would make it very difficult because I would have the port pretty darn close and up in the rear window..

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Option2.jpg

Option 3: Subs up, port forwards...this is my first choice as of now, all I would need to do as far as the interchangeable port goes, is take out my seats and swap it on out...easiest and I also think it'd have plenty of potential to get loud

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Option3.jpg

So, my vote would be #3 right now, but just wanting to know some opinions from everyone.

Thanks :)

Option 1 or 3, IMO.

But for a DD I'd pick Option 1.

Summer time she'll be complete (hopefully by mid-summer) I was planning on another XXX10000, one for each sub...but that in itself will call for 1000+ in batteries and a good $900 for the amp itself...and I can't really hang with those kinds of costs :crap:...so for now, just the one, lonesome, little XXX10k :(

Hopefully down the road the amp upgrade will take place. And I may be adding another D3100 during this upgrade but we'll see, I may just keep it the way it is since they fit so well down in the spare tire well.

But this will be tuned to 29-30Hz daily ...240-260 sq inches of port hopefully...and 13 cubes net....should destroy the lows

That's also what im thinking..if I can tilt the seats forward and adjust them to remove the port that'd be awesome...though I'd be taking out my passenger seat for comps most likely anyways

if they subs get good and close to the window in 3 I vote that, I wonder how much they will load off of it. I think just wall it like a nromal wall and be done with it women only need a back window

That's why I think the second option would be better so the port can load off the window nicely...but im not too sure how close I can get the subs to the rear window though (their a good 10-11" tall I would guess)...I could drop the enclosure a bit to make for more clearance I suppose...hmm

And it's not about having a rear window (I no-longer even bother puting my rearview mirror up, never can use it even at moderate volume)...it's just that anyone and their brother would wall it and everyone's seen a wall of the sort...I think this will just be more fun on the daily and a quicker build than a wall

I might be just saying 'screw-it' to the port idea...I may go with option 2 or 3 but either/or I think im going to just stick with a low-tuned port all the time...since I dont compete all that seriously (this will still be a daily driver for the most-part) and this will be mostly just to have some fun...I think im going to just stay true and stay looow :)...this will be peaking a good bit lower than my current 35Hz ;)

Subs up, port to the side...

Open your door... swap your port...

Allow for clearances ;)

Because I really dont want to do a side-firing port and deal with all that (and im mean :fyi:)...idk, and it would waste space that I need desperately in the cabin, I kind of want to keep as much of this in the cabin as possible...though I know im going into the trunk a bit with this for some airspace

Lots of records have been made in street with side firing ports...

Just another option. Do you have enough room to make the port on the top... but off on one side? What would the dims be if you had the port like #2?

Well im thinking around 220+ sq inches on the port (upto around 250-260)...but im not too sure on the dimensions yet, maybe like 8.5" x 28" or so..? depends on how the tuning will cooperate and how much volume I can afford to lose, which shouldnt be too big of a problem.

And I just made a mock-up of the 8.5 x 28 port with some printer paper and I can fit a beast of a port in my rear deck area :)...if tuning and space allows im going to go more for 250-260 sq inches

Some nice quality vinyl... how wide is it though?

You will need to make beauty panels for the side obviously to cover up the overlap/seams on side... but you can use .25" MDF for that...

Pioneer~Saturn

^Yea I was thinking that...and at the front/widest point it'd be 48.5" wide..

Here's what ive came up with..

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Omega18sEnclosure.jpg

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Omega18sEnclosure2.jpg

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu107/DugRoosa/Omega18sEnclosure3.jpg

Specs:

12.308 cubes net
30.25 Hz tuning
202.5 sq inches of port

(I think it's safe to say the lows will be taken care of :) )

Some of the walls that are single layered will have supports and/or a thick fiberglassing on the inside and also the top of the enclosure on the outside will have a nice, thick layer of fiberglass on it for some strength (and most likely resined throughout the inside to smooth everything and make sure it's nice and sealed...adding mat where some added strength is needed)

Twisted_0912
03-08-2009, 08:53 PM
sexyness :fyi: that looks pretty intense to build and should dominate the lows. cant wait to see this

Pioneer~Saturn
03-08-2009, 08:58 PM
Thanks, the rear window will be removed for this install so that will thankfully be out of the way...with it there it'd be extremely difficult working around it. But still it'll be a fairly tough build with almost everything being built in the enclosure...plus a large amount of fiberglassing will be going on inside and out of the enclosure (along with the front doors having pods fiberglassed into each with a pair of 6.5" comps in each door, a buddy whose really into fiberglassing will hopefully be able to do that for me, should be sick)

The rear deck is pretty much going to be gone too, cut away...but if it's structural the enclosure will be bolted at multiple points on each side of the enclosure so that'll hopefully make up for it.

Sorry man :( but ive pretty much gone with #2 for sure now...ive got the design settled and im pretty much just waiting on saving up some money for wood and materials, but yea, #1 looks the best imo...and to the ear it may be louder because both the port and subs are right there at ear-level...but idk if it's actually be louder
