View Full Version : the rabbiting carpeting technique?

i know when attempting this technique, you are supposed to go over the side plates of the box with a rabbit or straight bit before assembling the box....but is it ok to go a head and assemble the box, followed by cutting out the groove with about 3/4" border.....if this is ok to do i think i'll make my groove with a staight bit in my rotozip about 1/4" deep
You can do it that way but you don't need 1/4" deep, try 1/8" it should be more than enough.

I do 1/8" x 1/8" all the way around each side panel using a flush trim bit in a router table. Makes carpetting the sides MUCH easier...

well i just bought a black and decker router from a friend, for 25dollars...so if i prolly should start using it instead of the router, i can........but what size/kind of bit, should i used to make the grooves??
