View Full Version : haz mat sub box idea

this drawing has no subs in it, since i cant draw speakers worth my life. this box is a pleglass/MDF board combo. the tubes and top panels are made of plexi. the only problem i see is getting a 14" OD tube with a 3/4"-1" sidewall. this drawing also doesn't have the supports for the tubes and a few other details. the theme of the box is industrial/hazmat container/nuclear reactor. all plexi is clear, the green is the neons i want to put inside the box. tell me what you think:)

rough box dimensions- 34"x30"

you can find plexiglass/acrylic tubes, just search. They are expensive. People use them to build fishtanks and **** like that.

oh sorry, i knew i forgot something. the subs go inside the 2 large tubes, and the passive radiators go in the sides and back of the box. the whole box would be covered in speaker fabric and the box painted black, so i get a seamless look and you dont realy notice the PR's

and yeah i fount the plexi tube, its not cheap. the XXX re's are too pretty to put in a sealed box.

ignore the fact theirs nothing holding up the tubes- i laready have that figured out im just not a good artist.the subs will be mounted to a MDF ring thats bolted to the plexi...this is feasable, the tubes are 14" wide and the tubes about 14in deap.

.....i didnt draw the supports, they were to go about an inch from the end and would be straped onto the tube.... i cant DRAW... this was more of a concept drawing to get opinions on whether or not it looked nice, this IS NOT the final product. i can draw another one thats more detailed, but i want to know if the IDEA is good, not the drawing.

No. The tubes/box transition would pressurize akwardly.

No. The tubes/box transition would pressurize akwardly.

meaning it would blow apart? or just reduce SQ to nothing?

It has nothing to do with vibration...
It has to do with ghetto... and worthless.
Your idea started cool, but then people realized it was RETARDED.
It would work well as a fourth or 6th order BP... or, rather, as a BP in general with the tubes acting as aeroports.

But with your current idea, it's just filled with a **** load of FIAL

i see no benefit from this design.

Will it look different? yes.

Is it realistic and worth the time for a substage? absolutely not.

Better luck next time.

Well, like I said in my post, if he made it into a BP, it'd look cool, and work. I agree, though... unless it was going in someone's living room, I wouldn't waste that much time on it.

we get the theme. you just have not made it properly. re design it. you can go ahead and throw to XXX's in it its going to sound horrible and fall apart within hours

why is it if you ask for any kind of advice on this forum all you get is flamed?

the point of the box IS to be different... i dont want to make a box thats boring, i want the box to actualy be worth puting in the trunk and waisting space.

I think the tube to box idea will not work well. It will have odd loading problems and weird airflow.

keiffith
02-13-2009, 08:25 PM
ok. what if instead of using tubes jut extend the box out, scrap the tubes and plexi it around the subs?

nope,

I just remembered seeing something like what you posted, and did a quick search.

I would imagine that there would be some loading issues though.

well if i risk blowing stuff up ill just make a normal box with lots of plexi.

You could sort of make that design, if you make the whole thing out of fiberglass. Make the rings at the end where the tubes are and stretch your fabric down over the frame you have made. It would be pretty ugly and look like a huge staph infection in your trunk, but whatever.
