i got a set of plans from Mikey B on here for a box that will fit in my car. Thing is i want to *massage* it a bit if possible.

This i what i have:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Untitled-1-6.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c241/MikeyB88/Untitled-2-3.jpg

The only thing i really want to do is make it maybe 1" to 2" taller and i either want the ports on each side, or i want to have one big port in the middle.

Also, what is the net vubes of this box? I'm looking for ~4cubes @ 30-32hz

ok, just finalized the amp deal, now this is the last part. can anyone look at this and see what can be done?

if i get nothing i may just flop the ports to the outside and build it the same. just need to be sure it's 4 cubes @ 30-32hz

Box looks good, sorry I cant help with your question though. Did you get my PM yesterday?

Are you facing the box forward or to the rear.
If rear firing, shorter is better; it allows more
sound to pass back to the cabin.

I built this one from the box sticky:

4 cubes net at 30Hz

it'll be subs/port toward the cabin. the reason i want to go taller is (a) i want it to protrude less into my space in the trunk. i'd like to have some room for stuff back there (b) i want there to be more "meat" around the subs. the recessed part gets really close to the edge

tez, i did get that pm. and i ran out and forgot to reply. i'll hit you up in a few

ok, i got a new idea.... i'm gonna come up with a box so that i can build an amp rack INTO it. i will try and roughly draw it out with some dimensions. if i do that, who can i get to actually take my idea and make a plan out of it? willing to drop some cash for a good plan. it won't be complicated, actually pretty basic IMO

ok. won't be back on until monday though. i should have it sketched by then.

BTW, my sketch will probably be MS paint, or a picture of a hand drawn sketch. i might be able to draw it up on my estimating program, but i doubt it... :crap:

Just curious, that program that was used to make the original sketch, is that Autodesk Inventor?

Was just wondering, I use that program frequently in my engineering classes.

didnt even think about it til last night. it's gonna be a couple days. i have some PC customers waiting now :crap:

i was thinking about it though...i've never seen this done. how would it work out if i were to have it built where one sub/port faces forward (cabin) and the other facing the rear? and flush the amps in right next to the sub on the front baffle (on each side). would that be a viable option?

I'd say the subs belong on the same plane (board) for the most part.

Even if it sounds great e-critics will torture you:laugh:

i was thinking the same, and idgaf about what these folks think. i just want the **** to sound good, and be able to fit all the **** in there.

i'm working in a limited space, and i want to have some space in my trunk (yes, even with 4 cubes net ) so i want the amps mounted up off the floor.

maybe i can do a "horn" design or something where the subs mount inside the box, and i can mount all the **** on the outside. like i've said, i have no idea wtf i'm doing with this. just throwing out ideas. i want to draw it up ONE time. so i want to have the right idea when i start measuring and ****.

I can't design a horn.
Maybe you could do both subs forward and port forward sealed off?

Yes, pvc ports can save space. Building the box to tall can choke off the cabin.

jco1385
04-27-2009, 05:34 PM
well i can only get about 15" max on height. the one in there now is 16" and SNUG. i wouldn't be able to fit 16" and still get the box in the car. so 15" would be the max height. i just want it to be as shallow as possible so i can keep my toolbox and other **** in there. i don't care what the trunk looks like, but i'd like this to be somewhat cleaner than previous installs.

mcsoul

i can send you a shot of the old plans. probably won't get a good shot of it while in the car.

and i can get a shot of the fold down seats. what are you trying to see?

tez4life
04-27-2009, 06:04 PM
How about the areos? Maybe a pair of 4" or a single 6". I know that the areos will save you space, but im not sure about designing a box with them. Maybe an option.

box plans for the box that is in the car now:

pic of the front with both seats down:

pic of the back at the top (to show clearance):

pic of the back at the side (to show clearance):
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc265/jco1385/RANDOM/0427091726a.jpg

i have about the same clearance on each side, which is about 3/4" to 1". the plywood on the back is not part of the box. it is screwed to the box to mount the amps on without piercing the box.

How does your current single 12 sound?

How would you feel about going 21" deep (instead of 13.5") and keeping the height and width the same?

jco1385
04-30-2009, 09:58 AM
my single 12" is pretty loud IMO; depending on the temp/humidity ratio.

i'll have to see how that measures out. idk if i can keep the 16" height with the 21" length. i don't think it'll fit in the opening.

jco1385

Not optimal, but 2 4" areo ports will save space.

jco1385
04-30-2009, 02:06 PM
how much space? i'm considering aero's over slot. what kind of depth with the aero's vs slot?

if we do aero's, i'd like them to come out between the subs

Chatham540i
04-30-2009, 02:19 PM
Idk if you mentioned it before, but are you going to fire them into the cabin like 12" What about sealing the trunk off?

jco1385
04-30-2009, 02:22 PM
port(s)/subs toward cabin. IB is not an option.

jco1385
04-30-2009, 05:38 PM
i know soul is working on this (at least i think so), but anyone else have thoughts or suggestions? i'm not going to seal the trunk off, or build a sealed box but all other ideas are welcome and appreciated. ;)

mcsoul
04-30-2009, 08:16 PM
Here is one idea.

.75" mdf

16"h X 35"w X 17.75"d

three 3" (inside diameter) areo ports 13.4" deep each

4 cubes net tuned to 30hz

Definitely not an optimal box and I would not try anything smaller than this.
Ports and woofers aimed back, or ports back woofers up (assuming the woofers have
excursion clearance).

If we tune higher we can use two 4" areo's but at 30hz they are to long.

jco1385
05-01-2009, 09:56 AM
i'd really like to have it face the cabin, but i'll measure it and see how it fits. cant i use PVC like bones made the tutorial for? i've never used/made aeros before.

at 16" high nothing has any clearance :crap:

mcsoul

Yep pvc is fine as long as it is exactly 3" internal diameter and the length
is what I specified. You got the stuff already anyway, time to get building.:D

jco1385
05-01-2009, 11:49 AM
i'd like to do it just once ;)

and what if i can't fit it at 16" high? how would 15" do?

DonH
05-01-2009, 03:39 PM
her is and idea here havnt read the whole thing but with 4" ports you can use elbows . if the 4" is to long slap an elbow on the ends of it and calculate the length needed left for a straight piece.

also do you have room to run externall ports? nothing drastic about 2-3" inches? somewhat like pioneer saturns box was like if you ever saw how he had the ports out about 2"??

jco1385
05-01-2009, 03:43 PM
i think mcsoul calc'd with 3" aeros.

and soul, is that with a double baffle and any kind of brace in there at all?

DonH
05-01-2009, 03:51 PM
yeah soul is that with a double baffle?

mcsoul
05-01-2009, 07:11 PM
yeah soul is that with a double baffle?

Hell no double baffle, that's valuable trunk space man! jco loves junk in the trunk
If I had my way this box would be 14" tall and 24is inches deep with lots
of port area and maybe double baffled.

You could do 4" with bends (elbows) but I'm not sure how to keep them stable
in there or how to calculate the length of the bend. You'll have to engineer that part:D
We have to account for any bracing solutions' displacement (deeper box).

The 4" areo ports have to be 15.5" deep including any bends.

If you want 15" tall, it's gotta be deeper still, but the deeper you go, the closer
you get to using 4" areos with no elbows! Anything over 19" deep should be safe.

DonH
05-01-2009, 08:14 PM
very true the jco loves the donk!

yeah true if he doesn't want t go any deeper  sry sry, then three 3" is the only way to go. two 4" is still more port area thou. i like port area.

jco1385
05-02-2009, 11:11 AM
wat?

so 3" ports or 4" ports?

Three 3" ports is easiest.
two 4" ports would need elbow joints because they are so long.

So three 3" ports is still valid, we were just discussing other options.

so, will i loose output by going with aeros VS slot? i love how mine is now.

mcsoul
05-06-2009, 01:17 PM
If the new box is not so big that it chokes off the cabin worse, you should see a lot more
output assuming your doubling the power. More if you keep the power the same too.

The vent mach is very similar to what you have.

jco1385
05-06-2009, 01:19 PM
i'm doubling both cone and power. i was just curious if aeros will not be as "loud" as a slot with the same area. i guess you are sying it should be the same. which is what i wanted to hear.

Looks like you might have to sacrifice something. You could always run those port up into the rear deck just put an elbow in em. Box face in cab, as wide as possible then let it go back as far as needed and double baffle the back trunk side and mount your amps on it. As for you seats, put a 1/4 inch panel on it to help resonate the bass. I think that would sound awesome and I think I just might do that myself for my new box design.

i'm not following...

whats wrong with it the way we have it now? (subs/port toward cabin) and what do you mean by the panel on the seats? my seats fold down so i don't think thats a problem

as for doubling the back, no need. i have a different route for that.

BTW, there is a new thread, since this one got worn out (HERE (http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6196298#post6196298))
