I plan on eventually getting 2 15" Nightshades, and I know they work very well in about 3cf each. im working on a box design, and im trying to figure out if i should go with 4 4" aeros for daily and have an extra set (shorter for higher tuning) for comps..
or
2 or 3 6" aeros, with the same idea, swap them out for comp and daily. i want the smallest port noise because they will be very close to me on drivers side, subs on pass side.
reason why im asking, because for a 6cf net box, 4 4"s seem optimal (or even 2 6"s), but then again its for 2 15"s which makes me want more port area, i see people using 3 4"s aeros just for 1 15".... im in a dilemma
can someone recommend something?
thanks,
Cody
You would need 3 x 6" to get ~84 sq in of port wich makes about 14 sq in per cubic foot and right were it should be. 4 x 4" is only about 8 sq in per cu ft.

thats what im thinkin too, but i've read that you only need "half" the port area with aero/round ports than you need with a slot port. any truth to that?
if i need to use 3 6"s, thats what i'll do

I'm using 5 4"ports for 2 15" BL's. I couldn't fit 6" ports as the length was too deep for my box. Before that I had 2 4" ports on 1 15" BL. Never done any real testing or anything, but all seemed fine for me.

Aeros are more efficient then the 12^2 per cube, they're more like 6-8 per cube. Depending on power you'll probably be fine with two 6" aeros.

I recommend more port area than 4 4" for 2 15's.

2 6"s suffice?
power will be a little over 3kw for the pair, 1500 each
daily tune: around 34hz
comp tune: probably 46-48hz

If that's as much as you can fit, then that's the better way to go. A lot of the MECA guys are running a single 6" per 15. I haven't gotten to play with my 6" ports yet, but I know from experience that 2 4" ports is not enough for a 15.

He probably doesn't have the room for nearly 30" long ports.

Round ports are more efficient and do not need as much port area as a slot port. Four 4"' or two 6" will work fine as a daily setup. If you're more concerned with TL #s then go for a little more port area with five 4" ports. I recommend no more than that for daily and four 6" is way too much.
