There is no "best", it comes down to personal preference. If you can audition them first (bring your fav. CD w/) that would be the way too go.
Cuz not everyone likes the same flavor.
Some well liked "flavors" to look for:
Alpine SPX-17REF or PRO
Boston Acoustics Pro60
CDT ES-610 or HD-62
ID CTX65
Morel Tempo 6

going active an option?
x2 I just dropped $250 shipped on raw drivers. I was in the same boat, but I have
an active headunit, and a couple of amps lying around.

Pioneer 720 prs's $250 (don't worry they will like 100w rms)

AQ AQG-6.5 $200 shipped

Since you already have a 4-channel, I'd look into getting an outboard crossover and going active...no point wasting money on passives.

to go active, you just hook up 1 speaker per channel.. and no passive crossovers? (the crossovers that come with component sets)
how do you turn your hu active?
i have an audiocontrol 3.1 (old i know)
and i have the sub and front rca hooked into that, then the input from the AC3.1 goes to the front rca input on the hu. is that right or wrong?
