View Full Version : im a ******* and built my wall to big.

so i built a wall for my 96 sonoma.( 4 re sr 15's) hooked everything up, and i was very disappointed with the output.

ive thought and re calculated my airspace and displacements and ive figured out my box is actually .76686 cft to big.

so im wondering what i could use to put in it to take up that airspace.

would a cardboard box taped up work? or would the sound waves actually go through it. i could fill the box with towels?

or should i go buy some more wood and build a box that takes up that much cft and screw in it?

coult you put some mdf in it

2x4s,2x6s.2x8s.

But .765.

Isn't going to make "that much difference".

Thats less than .2 per sub.

That little bit of extra space shouldn't hurt your output that much. Is is tuned right? Have you checked for air leaks?

12X12X9 1/8 cube comes out to be .76 cft or very close

ive checked everything the tuning is right, no air leaks , no box flex

did you seal the wall off around the edges?

It shouldn't matter much at all.

What's the port size?

Is it a sealed box/wall?

maybe i was expecting to much from these? it seems like my last setup with 6 re 8's in a standard cab was louder? but its been a while since ive had bass in a vehicle?

bvr_j_0969
01-16-2009, 11:51 AM
the port is 7X23 25.5" long

4 15s in a wall, should be decently loud, no matter what 15s.

bvr_j_0969

hell with that airspace, and the port size it just shows my box is tuned to just shy of 32 hz

X2, there is something wrong with the install imo

Are the subs wired out of phase? Receving enough power?

bvr_j_0969
01-16-2009, 11:54 AM
i was shooting for 2.5 per sub 10 cft net

Rashaddd

you probably wont even hear a difference at all

bvr_j_0969
01-16-2009, 11:55 AM
im pretty sure they are all in phase, 2 ohms and they should be getting 325 rms per sub (rated at 300 rms)

Thats actually kind of small for 15"s, that extra airspace is probably helping more than hurting you.

what subs?

bvr_j_0969
01-16-2009, 11:59 AM
the sr's minimum airspace ported was 2.5 cft max was 3 cft that was the reason i chose them , so i wouldnt loose alot of legroom

Ford302Redneck
01-16-2009, 11:59 AM
yeah, 2.5 per sub ported is tiny.

They need at least 3-3.5.

Oh well.

But still even, it should be "loud".

it is loud but like i said just seems like my re 8's did the same job.

i might have been expecting to much out of them i will try to get a video and pics tomorrow

I have to agree with the possibility that your wired out of phase between two or more subs.

bvr_j_0969
01-16-2009, 12:27 PM
pics and vids tomorrow and i will also take the subs out and check to make sure they are wire in phase right. hell you guys might be right with 8 voicecoils to wire up i could have messed one or two up

double check your amps and wiring? head unit settings?

bamaboy
01-16-2009, 12:49 PM
easy answer to this, just take a drill battery and "pop" all the subs to check polarity, as long as they are going the same you should be good

i remember saying before 2.5cubes is small, but if they reccommend it i cant argue since ive never used them

Or any battery.....

I'd be willing to be some of the coils are out of phase as well.
