I was checking out some HT stuff and came across these.

They have em for $85 shipped a pair on woot.com right now. Do you really think they are flat from 20 khz all the way down to 55 hz?

prolly not, but from the energy speakers I've heard, they will sound pretty good. I would think they're worth the price there.

Honestly, I don't have any free cash to spend right now, but I will be upgrading in the future. Ideally, I'd like to stay under $500 for a receiver, and 5 bookshelves. I've already got a 15" Treo SSi on 200 watts tuned to 17 hz, so I'm fine on the low-end.
Is Sherwood a good brand or should I stick with Onkyo and Sony?

if you can find a pair of Harmon Kardon HKB6 bookshelves, then get them. they are a little big for bookshelves but sound really good. i have a pair that i am using as rear surrounds right now, but i used them as mains for a short period of time and they did pretty good.

The Energy are great speakers, its a division of Klipsch. They just arent as mainstream as other brands. 85 a pair is a steal.

definately stick with sony if you want a receiver with 50 different useless surround modes
if you want good sound get denon or onkyo
paradigm+denon=sounds great together
