i have this same question

I would pick the 9887. One reason is price. Another is that the 7200 has washout (you can't see the ****) in direct sunlight. Go to diymobileaudio.com and use the search feature. There's a ton of threads on this right here. 880prs is another option.

But to get the most out of the 9887 you have to buy the external processor otherwise it doesn't have as many features as the 7200 or the 800PRS.

well price isnt that big of deal. both are still like half what i paid for my 9800BT. 880prs isnt an option because im sure it has the same ipod issues as the 9800BT + its not BT.

what external processor are you talking about for the 9887? i remember reading you need to buy some kind of bluetooth module to use the BT, but the ipod adapter was built in so all you need to buy is the cord.

have you guys personally used either device? im really looking for feedback on the ipod navigation and control.

No, I haven't used either sadly, no one around me has that high end of units. I am currently debating between the 800PRS and 7200 as well.

Neither....

7998/9855

:)

i hated the f*ckin 9855, got rid of it like the next day. 7998 is nice but old, doesnt have the features i want. plus its got that motorized face issue.

and there are like ZERO audio shops around me anymore. and even if there were, i doubt theyd have high end units, so i cant even try these decks out :(

its a tough choice. overall, the alpine sounds better feature wise + its a US company. however, reviews and personal eclipse experience tell me the cd7200 mkII will sound significantly better....

the processor he's talking about is "imprint" from alpine, you hook it up and get alot more options and controls. it's only like 150 bucks, and alot of people, from what i hear, like it alot. the 9886 has better ipod control than the 7, though

so im on alpines site now. in order for me to have the 9887 with imprint and BT, i need the KTX-100EQ and the KCE-350BT. Do i also need the PXA-H100? Thats a lot of extra stuff! this is gonna cost a lot :(

fatryan
01-07-2009, 07:15 PM
oh and cant forget the KCE-422i

fatryan
01-07-2009, 07:33 PM
ok, it looks like i dont need the pxa-h100, however the rest of the stuff is still gonna run me $655 shipped going by ebay prices :crap:

800PRS has a lot of good features. You can buy the iPod thing for 60 bucks off eBay. Maybe cheaper. Price is still a little too high for the 7200 MKII for me.

If you absolutely must pick between those 2, go for the 7200.

I am wondering how the features of the Imprint compare to those of like the RF 360 or the Audiocontrol DQL-8?

If your looking for Bluetooth then don't go with the 9887. The modual for that HU is garbage. It create horrible feedback from your speakers when listening to your iPod and the handsfree calling isn't the greatest either.

I should be getting a 7100 in the mail next week to replace my 9885, if that's relevant at all.

after i've seen the built of the MK2 i'd vouch for it all the way. The 9887 didn't impresses me much.

the 8445 menus arent that bad, but they could be better.

I'm going to be replacing mine this year mostly because I want a headunit with built in ipod controls. Im leaning towards the New Pioneer 710BT but it doesnt come out till April :( The New eclipse looks nice too.

Just got my 9887 installed last night, and so far I like it, but I can't seem to figure out how to search by artist, song title, album, etc. on the ipod . I can only find quick search that allows you to select which track number out of all the songs, but that doesn't do me any good since I don't know which track is what. Can anyone help me figure out how to search on the ipod?

I checked the manual, and it said to press the search button, but when I did that nothing happened. When I held the search button it came up with the quick search like it was suppossed to. I just kept messing with stuff, and I'm not sure what I did, but now when I hit the search button it comes up with the search menu just like it should. So all is well now, but I just wish I knew what the problem was.

No, it's not defective... I bought it from a member on this site, and saw it working just fine before I bought it from him. It's a pretty fancy headunit with tons of features, I'm sure I was just missing something.

01-12-2009, 11:16 PM
i have the 7200 and went to that from the 8455...NO ISSUES at all to include down to ipod control....The visual kinda ***** in bright daylight but im close to seattle....we dont have that here often lol...other than that ipod control is easy enough. Hit the source button when it loads ipod you then hit one button. that brings up your artist, playlist, song, genre, etc menu. From there you choose by pressing the BIG KNOB, from there it goes inside that menu...IF you want to get back to the previous menu you press RETURN. Absolutely no issues there. Ive used it with a 5th gen ipod 80 gig and a Classic 160, no problems with either. No problem with importing phone book either from my razr...on the Palm Treo...I havent figured that out lol...although i dont use the bluetooth option as you never want te phone displaying a number you want hidden from the old lady lol....

what about if youre listening to a song and the menu disappears after like 30 seconds (like it normally does with most decks). you just got the rehular screen saying the track title and elapse time etc. say you want to go back to where you left off (at a certain artist for example), can you simply press a button to get back there, or do you have to start all the way from A again? oh, and how quickly can you scroll through the ipod lists? do you use the knob? does it load all the track/artist name very quickly or is there a delay like in the 9800BT?
