So i'm lookin to get alpine spx-13pro components. not anytime soon but I'm just looking. So i'm looking at the specs and it says 240 watts peak and 80 watts rms. So my question is what kind of amp would i need to power them? would a pdx-4.100 do the job?

Peak is the actual limit of the woofer. Meaning you don't want to feed it anymore power then that UNLESS you control it properly. RMS is what the woofer likes to see to run optimally

A speaker normally sees neither for very long during normal operating conditions. IT may see rms for a split second a few times a song if the volume is cranked and it's highly dynamic music. Other times it may never even see the rms rating. IF you get an amp that just exactly matches your speaker's RMS ratings this is power that it might never see unless you get aggressive with gain. IF you get one that gives a bit more than what you need your speakers will see a steeper power curve and be more likely to see that power when it gets loud.
