Well, when i went from the 880 prs to the 9887, it was like night and day to me. Alpine had a much warmer sound to it, and it actually brang some clarity, IMO.

cda-9886 vs. deh-700bt I just wonder how well the cda-9886 2 band eq will
stack upto the 3 band of the pioneer

i agree with 1mtx but with the 9886 u can get the IMPRINT down the road for more tuning.
If your get bored and are always upgrading stuff....u want to think ahead so your not taking a step back from the beginning.

I'm never gonna upgrade, but I've always wanted to try an alpine deck but whats irking me is the lack of features built in to the ones in my price range of $300 or less. what I don't know and couldn't tell when I listened to both of them was why one was better or worse than the other

If u can purchase used u can usually find a 880prs or a 9887 in your range.

Dollar for dollar? No. I prefer my 7 band eq on my $200 pioneer, whereas my $250 Alpine had only 'bass' and 'treble'... along with BBE... which was about useless.

Between their top of the line products, I can't really tell a difference. Alpine's processors are more flexible than the P9, but both transports are excellent...

Unless Alpine has completely changed their software in the last couple years, the Pio 880/800 still has a leg up on the Alpines - having 16 band graphic EQs for each channel, instead of one 5 band parametric for both, is a handy feature :)

yeah, but their tuners aren't as strong. it's the little things that have me on the wall. if their eq's were better and the tuner was decent it wouldn't be an issue, I would get the alpine. But nooooo, alpine had to **** me off. :crap:

For sounds quality Alpine and Pioneer are very similar.

But when it comes to build quality, Alpine>>>>>>>>>>>Pioneer
Guaranteed after a year there will be some kind of functionality problem with the Pioneer.

^^^^ agree with you I had a pioneer in a 96 honda civic bought brand new a year later the cd's would not eject properly. Alpine is a company you simply can not beat they are a very good quality company.

thats def one thing to look for in any hu,is how many options you have with the bass settings.i wouldnt own any radio with just bass and treble......what a waste.as you can see in my sig,my alpine is over 6 yrs old.the power button has a little of the writting coming off and the 4 green buttons are starting to dim a little with bass notes, thats it.its been a great hu and has been in 3 diff vehicles lol

Thakyou, this is the kind of info that I need. I'm a dissapointed with a lack of some of the built in tuning features on the cda-9886 but build quality is more im portant.

it really boils down to how you take care of ur equipment, not playing cd's that are scratched to h*ll,only put in clean cd's.i did have a pioneer before my alpine.i owned it for 3 yrs and never had a problem with it.i just wanted to try alpine.i can tell you that a 4 volt alpine as more bumpity bump bump

Lies. I've had my DEH-680 for two years, and no problems other than when I pulled the RCAs out while it was on (never do that to a Pioneer) and had to ground the RCAs cause of engine noise. Of course, everyone knows Pioneer is bad about RCA grounds.

What are you basing that opinion on? Personal preference or what? I think Pioneer and Alpine are pretty even. Especially with headunits. Does ODR or P9 ring a bell? In fact, I would say that Pioneer has a wider range of products than Alpine. Not that it means they're a better company though. I would take Pioneer's flagship products over Alpine's any day of the week. But I just might be a little bit biased.:p:
