Its not any. The only thing with higher preamp voltage, it allows you to run your amps with the gains all the way down or at very low levels. This reduces the chance for noise to be introduced into your system, plus that higher voltage from the preamps helps if you have several amps all getting one signal from a set of RCAs.

Soundwise its up in the air. Some people says it makes a big difference, others say the opposite. Personally, I notice a difference with my system with the line driver in there, but felt like I was getting enought from my HU that I didnt need it anymore.

so it doesnt matter on the voltage?

Honestly no. Lower voltage from the HU means your have to set your gains at a higher level than with a HU with a higher voltage. (2v vs 4v for example)

I say get whatever HU you like. If the voltage is not to your liking, you can always by a line driver if you feel you need it.

I have a Kenwood DNX-7100 - Similar to the Pioneer Avic, but a little nicer because it has on-board navigation instead of using cd's - $500 plus ship

I highly doubt you're going to find a decent double din nav unit for $350
