port deminsions ratio?

im using carstereos website to figure up my port and i was wondering,

would it be alright to use less then a 1:8 ratio on my port i was wanting 5X42.5 for my port

it keeps telling me no and im wondering why you shouldnt?

you want the port to be as square as you can get it. its kinda like when u put ur thumb over the water hose to make it spray further, your increasing the velocity the air is moving in the port.
