View Full Version : What components would you buy for $1000 or less. Zapco,Focal, or what?

$1000 budget
Needs to include 2 6.5" component sets and one 4 channel amp. Question is which brand? I'm new to SQL and I'm not familiar with what brands are best for SQL, I used to be an SPL dude. I was looking at Focal, MB Quart, Diamond, and Zapco. I would like a 4 channel amp putting out about 75RMSx4. As of now, I have a 2008 Scion TC with a JL13w3v3 in a sealed enclosure, 1.85Ft3, running off of a JL 500/1v2.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm, you bring up a good point. I assumed front and rear, no?Or components in front and coax in rear? Also, any word on Focal amps? I was looking at this one

I also have a scion tc 2006, I'm passive right now with cdt 62i-6.75 mids with a set of home large format tweeters in my pillars. my sub is a 12w6v2-amp 500/1 which i'm about to port
you can buy focal, zapco, diamond etc, but i've been over to diyma web site & if you want to find out the best sound for the best price the guys probably will be able guide you in the right direction.
that focal amp is pretty nice

I'm thinking he wants SQL, which is already has the sub.
Hey GREG U if your going for 6.5 or larger in the stock location the deepest depth would ba around 3.25 & thats with spacer rings up to 1.25inches after you put back on the door panels.
You can also go active with Hybrid Audio, they are having some type of sell going on right now.
I might try the hybid L8 mids for the trade in price that's going on.
you can call Scott / hear is hybrid forumhttp://www.buwaldahybrids.com/phpBB3/index.php
or yo could look in mach audo mids or image dynamics oem mids which some guy on diyma is selling which many of the guys are raving about.

Out of the 4 you listed, either the Zapcos or the Focal. Both great brands and very high quality.

I have spoken with the ownder of Hybrid Audio and he really knows his stuff when it comes to his products. Def the way to go if you decide to go active.

if i had 1000 to spend on two tweets and two mids OEM active style, id buy these

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51016

if i had to buy components, id prolly go with the new ID comps. but i would go OEM so thats irrelevant. :)

but sql is something that i dont care for. so my statement is regarding sound quality. if i had 1k for an amp, and a set of comps. well... id do some serious shopping to maximize my equipment.

could do the germaniums...but for 1000$ i'd do one set of power line CS's. They are pretty mean...the midwoofers use the same motor/basket as the vanadium 7" subwoofer...crossed for SQL would be 80hz, or for SQ at low volume they'll play crossed down at 50 or 63 hz in a well deadened door.

Here's 2 pics of the power line CS's next to the germaniums. LOL.

The germs are nice...but they're half that budget :) the power line cs are a totally different beast.

Here is the power line cs next to the vanadium 12" sub
look pretty similar huh?

Those Rainbow MB's look nice, but I bet they curl up in a little ball in zee corner and **** their thumb when it's go time. :p:

If you gave me $1k to spend on components I'd go straight to Craigslist to find the best home monitors I could and take the good stuff out of them.

The upper midrange is somewhat mellower than the classic type 6.5". Response is fast tight and powerful and very smooth.

The upper midrange is smoother than the classic type 6.5" with the tweeter response softer at higher volumes. Response is crisp, powerful and very clear.

I have a set of Zapco CK 16.2's (top of the line Zapco's) and selling them for half of what you're looking to spend. Since you need 2, there is a guy on the DIYMA forum selling the pair of mids and one of the tweeters from the set, and I believe it would come out to less than 1k.
