I have a cheap *** subwoofer thats supposed to be in a 1.6 ported to 35hz. Would 3 ft.^3 box be too big and do i have to tune it to 35?

you don't have to do a da*n thing they tell you! do what sounds good. i don't think it will self destruct if you put it in a huge box and give it MODERATE power. heck, it might even sound good too. :)

Lunatic, You can pretty much do what u want it, all depends on what u like but 3 cubes is big compared to the suggested, why so big?

I figured if its bigger it will be louder but thats why I was wondering if it would be too big because its double the recommended size.

there's no such thing as too big, unless it won't fit in your car. :) ;) go big, if it *****, cut it in half and you can have two boxes.

Yeah just build it, if it sounds like crap trim it down a few in.'s or ft.

check out the 7' sub thread in general discussion, mgaidica put a 7' speaker in a 4cu box and it was way loud.

check out the 7' sub thread in general discussion, snova put a 7' speaker in a 4cu box and it was way loud.

it was actually mgaidica, and well its all about the install. if the recommended is 1.6 then go with 2.5-3. it will be loud and clean ((depending on the tuning) if the sub isn't to crappy.

Box size is entirely power dependant. A ported box is only too big when the subwoofer(s) can no longer effectively compress the air within it. So when it comes to ported boxes, the more power you have, the bigger the box can be (while still being effective).
