I'm looking for a pair of 6.5" coaxial's for my gf's rav4. They're going to be power by a hu for now. I would go with comp's and an amp but i don't have the budget for it at the moment (unless it's feasible for under $200 with wiring and accessories).

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KFX-AK44. This is one of the cheaper 4 channel amp kits I've seen but it's almost $60.

according to this site the front speakers are 6 3/4"

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?lp=%2fapp%2fCar%2fMyCar.aspx

Is this possibly an error? Will 6.5" speakers fit?

Also, any opinions on these?

CTX6.5 speakers are designed to fit into oversized 6 1/2", 6 3/4", and 7" speaker so it's kinda a multipurpose speaker. with this design there wasn't really a need to make a 7" speaker and with factory speakers now being oversized 6.5s this was a cure all. now if you need exactly a 6.5 there's always the http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=911 which is just a 6.5 speaker

Will the CTX65's sound terrible without an amp? It may be a few months on a hu

Horsemanwill

no they'll be fine w/o an amp. the ctx is ID's less expensive line designed for the budget minded consumer who's just looking to replace the factory speakers.

Sounds perfect. Is woofersetc.com my best bet for finding a cheap price? I'll have to ship them to Canada

Horsemanwill

yes for an "AUTHORIZED" Dealer. ID is working on getting a distributor in canada as the last one experienced a situation which involved in closing down. :( but for now woofersetc.com is the only authorized ID dealer to sell online. any other purchases will not be covered under warrenty.

and fyi i am i no way employed with ID i just love their stuff lol

It looks like the CTX's have a pretty hefty back end. Is there any way i can figure out if they'll fit in a 98 rav4?

the depth i found for them is just shy of 3" and from what i find about your rav is 3.2" depth so you should be ok./

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10190_Memphis+15-MSYNC6.html little over in cost but a fine set can be made into a seperate component set.

Again, Polk DB650. Send about 100 watts to them and they will sound phenomenal, and can be had for like $70?

With a little judicious shopping, $200 could net you a 4-channel amp and separate drivers for bi-amping that'll blow away the typical passive coaxial...and will give you a lot of experience in how to configure crossover points and slopes for when you could afford better drivers.

I'll probably try a bit more experimentation when i upgrade my own car. This little project is an xmas present my gf and is probably best left simple.

Thanks for all the help. I think i'll go with the ID CTX's
