I got a 46" Samsung 1080p LCD last week so I was considering getting a ps3 for Christmas to play blu-rays and to play some games.

So anyone that uses the ps3 for blu-ray, is it a good player?

I don't personally have one, but my uncle does. Excellent player, IMO. Quality is outstanding.

It's the only 2.0 player on the market ( unless someone has brought out one recently ) all the other players require firmware updates, the ps3 has internal network card so it can update much easier and does it on its own just turn it on and connect.

I <3 my ps3

You might as well buy a PS3 and get a free Blu-Ray player.

Like lilmaniac said it is maybe the only player out that you can upgrade, but I only use mine for games. My Talladega nights and spiderman 3 have never been played.

It's threads like these that make me feel sad that I do not own a PS3 yet. :(
One day.....one day.....You'll see!

There are reasons to argue it, but most consider it the best blu-ray player on the market. It can't bitstream lossless codecs, which is a downside, but as long as you have a processor/receiver you'll be good.

Or maybe you don't care about lossless audio.

I have a Yamaha htr-5660 for my receiver so ill be using optical for my sound. I really have no clue what lossless audio is.

Do the mags screw with plasma and LCD screens? Allways wondered about that. And DB, I still own the original NES. :D

Nope, they don't do anything to the screens. Plus they are only Fi X's so they have small magnets

I heart my PS3. I have a 46" Sony 720P LCD Rear Projection. The visual quality is spectacular, even tho the TV isn't 1080P. I've had it for a few years now. The PS3 snags my neighbors wireless interwebz like a kid in a candystore. And it uses Bluetooth, thats fun.

that good to know chad. I was going to do a build for my dad, and didn't know if they would screw with them being that close.

i just bought a PS3 a week ago but i have yet to watch a blu-ray movie. i need to go rent one and try it out. but many have said its the best blu-ray player out since it can update itself.

I have used the ps# for about 5 months as my BR player, no complaints. Granted im still looking into a Denon 3800, but thats a few months down the road, hopefully after CES there will be a price drop.

Main reason why I bought a PS3 was for Blu-ray. Rarely play games except Metal Gear Solid 4 of course.
