Alright here's the deal, I've got a $600 budget and I need a sound quality set of speakers for my 1991 cadillac sedan deville. I've been looking at the hertz mlk 165 and the morel hybrid ovation as well as the focal k2p's.

All of the above would be great choices. You're also going to hear a lot of people recommending Rainbow Germaniums.

Germs are a decent set and are under 600$ by a fair amount. I recommend going for a set of the profi vanadiums for ~6-700$.

Funky pups in the doors, ultimate component set. Although the number of cars in existence to ever have had them are very few. Most cars are not ****** enough to handle the pups but here is a fairly complete list of cars known to hold the pups Mr Fox had a pair in his delorean in back to the future. A pair were installed in the challenger used in vanishing point as well as. Connery had used a pair in for Russia with love in the Bentley and it is also rumored that Captain Packard has a pair on the enterprise (only 1 pair obviously) The titanic obviously had bose.

Dyn, Morel and ID make very good comps as well.

I would vote Dyn. If you can push the budget a bit, go 3-way. I doubt you will look back.

there is a hertz 3-way for $325 in the classifieds, drop a PDX 2.150 on them and you may have a nice system under budget.

eh, passive 3 way... Too many speakers with too little control IMO.

I would go with the MLK165's or the Dynaudio 6.5"s

I got a set of zapco 5.25s for 250 shipped. But if you need 6.5s I would suggest the Dyns. I have heard them myself and they sound wonderful.

I've heard all three sets, I think the morels & hertz are some of smoothest sounding comps that are great for the money.
focal isn't as smooth but a great set as well
I would buy the hybrid ovations over most comps out there.

There is a sticky at the top of this section of the forum that probably tells you most of what you need to know.

so why ask for recommendations when you have your whole setup plotted out in your sig already? get what you want instead of being worried if you made the incorrect decision.

btw, how much is that car worth compared to what you are putting in it?

I was just curious as to what people thought.

Not near as much as the equipment that I'm puttin in it but I'm getting a 2007 honda pilot and am transferring everything to it, except maybe the hu if it comes with navagation. Then I'll do the stock hu and get a rockford fosgate 360.2.

Those dd's sound like they're a great set, especially the high end ones. But I'm lookin closely at the hertz mlk's. I've heard great things about them.

If you lived by me and you heard my truck it would change your mind. The dd
hi-end comps are made in germany.

joshualittle

I'm sure your truck sounds great man, I'm not doubting that one bit. I'm pretty sure it's top notch quality. Have you heard any hertz or morel sets "loosewire"? and if you have can you compare them with the dd's in your truck.

Yes I have heard the MLK 165 two-way and I personal like the dd.
Hertz are great speakers but dd all the way for me.

I wouldnt suggest germaniums for a 600 dollar budget. Maybe for 250. Ive had them for a few months and sold them. To me they had a "cool" sound overall. If the midrange was a bit warmer sounding and the tweeter was a bit more layed back and if they got a little louder I would have probably kept them.
