I'm thinking 8 10's is the way to go...lots of cone area, and d4 subs will let me run a good 3kw amp at .5ohm for pleanty of power(for now :sneaky:) This design allows me to do interchangable ports for daily and burping.

Just the front baffle, obviously.

Any suggestions for subs? I've been thinking some of the new RE SR's(cheap on ebay), IA 187's, maybe AQ SD2's...I'm trying to think of some good 10's that'll work well off of 400-500 watts a piece.

I kinda stole it from John Carr when I saw his Punisher van last weekend...except he had 8 15's instead of 10's...and about 5 times the power I'll be using. :D

Yeah, I'm wanting to step it up to a couple of Atomic or Sundown 3kw's, but just don't have the funds right now to even think about it.

Looks just like the front of Carr's box and we all know how loud it was :D

I think it just might work :) Do It!

do some retarded cheap subs then upgrade. 8 sd 2.5 10's would be amazing for a daily groundpounder;)

Alpine Type Rs? They work good off of 500w.

i wouldnt even worry about 2 different ports with that design. make it strictly for daily use. design is crap for spl

8 10's isn't much more than 2 18's or 3 15's, 5 12's is more, can you fit 6 12's?

I think I can fit 5 12's, but not 6. If I fit 6 I have a hard time getting enough port area. I just like the idea of more smaller woofers instead of a pair of 18's, even though I can get some solid 18's for less than 8 good 10's.

I also have a problem with port placement when doing a pair of 18's since my box depth is limited until I need to narrowe the boz to 34". With the port in the middle, I don't need to worry about bending a port(s) around the wheel well(s).

I'm not really interested with tinkering with an spl box for this car. Since I'll be in usac, having a wall in a small car like this is useless when I'll be going up against vans with 8 15's and 40kw. This is just more for fun, so I'll throw in a shorter port for some burps just for the hell of it, to see what it does.

That's where I got the idea from, and I really like it since it kills my port troubles I've been having. I'm really anxious to see how retarded your setup is for next season. I can't believe you already ripped your old stuff out...you're crazy man.

How about sonotube ports? 2 12's would fit there, possibly even bigger I can't tell, 2 12's would be 226 sq in of port though, 2 14's would be 307 sq in, I think they'd look alot nicer and be more unique that way, probably somewhat louder, plus the ability to change tuning as much as you like, just throwin that out there

The only problem I have with sonotubes, and with me wanting to do interchangable ports, is that it seems like it'd be a hassle attaching them to a piece of MDF that'll fit over the front baffle, overlapping the hole by about 1" all around. And having that connection be strong enough to withstand the wear and tear of daily use. With a plain ol' slot port it's a breeze since there's nice, flat joining points.

Oh, and here's a quick mock-up I did of the whole box...I'm anxious to get started on this thing.

It will look nice but you will have cancellation issues

What kind of issues? Subs and port are on the same plane...or are you referring to the corners inside the box causing issues?

Well, I just worked out a deal with Mark from Mach 5, and I'm proud to say I'll be running some Mach 5 subs again....how does 8 IXL10's sound? :D :D :sneaky: :D :D
