View Full Version : Kenwood DNX8120 - Video while driving?

Hey guys, this is a question to those who have this head unit. I know my last DVD player had a feature that disabled the video unless I had the ebrake on. I ended up switching the wire from the ebrake to a little switch. Worked like a charm. Is the video while driving illegal in every state?

But here's to my question. Does the Kenwood have this feature for DVD play back? And what about the Nav system? I've heard this too is disabled to make new routes while moving.

If it does have a system, is it the same ebrake method or is there something different?

i think it might be hooked up to the speed sensor or something, once the car is moving, the nav should lock you out

I got one, brought it to local shop and told them I wanted everything to work while I am in motion, DVD plays, NAV works, everything works when I drive, just ask someone at the local shop to do a "Side Job" unless you know someone

As said above, kenwood doesnt put anything fancy in their units that locks you out, just the 1 wire that you ground out

grounding the park brake wire doesn't always work, for my clarion I had to use a toggle switch...had to switch it back and forth once, then it would work.

Sweet sounds easy enough. I'll ask them to do it once I get it installed. And if they don't I'll just do it on my own later. Any specific I should ground it to? Or would most of the stuff in there probably be good enough? A screw or something?

Clarion's and Pioneer's video bypass is more involved than the newer Kenwoods.

For the DNX 8120, 7120, and 7100 (only three I have install experience with), all you do is ground the light green parking brake wire as mentioned above. You then can enjoy in-motion video.

I have the 812 and they are right ground the light green wire and it should work. It also worked with my Kenwood 7019.
