Hey guys,

Just posting up some plans for my enclosure build for the 15" TC-3000 on it's way ;)

It will be 4.19 cubes, tuned to 26Hz, and 64 sq inches of port area :D

Here she is..

Im hoping to start this in the near future but I don't think it's going to be the quickest build in the world :(

how the hell do you calculate that internal volume of something like that!?

Using sketch up :p: you just highlight the area that the port doesn't cover and then multiply that by the height and you get the airspace left for the submoofer :D

And I forgot to mention the front face will have another layer outside of that to countersink the sub :)

As has been said before... YOUR FUXXING CRAZY!
You definately need more clamps for that one!

I can't imagine its necessary for you to have made it so complicated, there are empty spaces, why?

imo you'd be better off redesigning the port more properly/linearly, though it does look crazy

Because :) And if I were to fill the empty spaces with the port and redesign it the airspace would increase and Id really like to keep it at around 4 cubes for the sub...

How do you take into acount the rounded port edges? Or do you just count them at 90's?

What I do in that situation is take advantage of the opportunity to increase port area ;)

not sayin its not a cool design, but it just doesn't seem practical, and I can't imagine all those twists and turns are great for air flow, but I'm sure you'll build it perfectly and it'll sound just fine or how you intended anyway

Nope, used google sketch-up to highlight the areas the port doresnt take up and it tells me how much area it is :) then just multiply that times the height and I get the volume :)

And even if I didnt have that feature I would just lay it down on paper and do the math for the areas of the circles that would be the kerfed areas and figure it out that way :D

Yea, but she's already got 64 sq inches :D

And yea, I see what youre saying...but, meh :p::D

I'm talking about port tuning ;)

you can calculate tuning from port volume too ;) assuming you know the height and width

Oh, lawl...well they wouldn't really account for anything other than a smoother edge...because the width wont really change at all from them..

but.. round edges would change length somewhat lol.

what is length and height :confused::confused:

Well each port is 32 sq inches and 58.75ish inches long

Honestly, I looked at the design... and while it looks whicked. As Rash said, it wouldn't be efficient. Those bends would kill the air velocity... and who the hell has a triangular-shaped box?! It's inefficient as far as space... You could always square it off and make the edges into amp racks... unless it's gunna be a HT set-up. Then leave it like that. It'd be baller.

Kind of reminds me of my 4th order BP I made when I was bored...

Haha, it is for HT :)

And that looks purty good :)

(BTW, I finalized that design and it now is a bit simpler of a port setup but still same size)

design looks nice but i see major port turbulance

now that should be a mega pain in the *** to build right.
getting both ports to be exactly the same as the other is a nightmare in it self.
....
but is a sick desing.
if I did something like that, id have to put a 1" thick plexi top on it, and put led lights in side.
as to not hide all the hard work that went in to it.

Uhh?

And... "HOLY NEGATIVE VELOCITY, BATMAN!"

Might sound good... but the output would be lowered due to those really small and cramped folded ports... I'd separate the ports a little bit more. Also, with the ports like that, might cause some turbulent air. But since it's a HT app, you might not hear it.

Can you send me the Sketch-up file of that?

I'd have it straight back and folded back on the left where Rash put the U shaped-thingy-ma-bob.

I'm sure he knows all this and is just being complicated for the fun of it ;)

Haha, yea...I could have easily done a pretty straight-shot and a simple bend-back of the ports...but this was just me being bored one night...I honestly have a much simpler plan than these for one of my 15's for HT :D

THUMPPER

you do reaslize that every corner in the port will add resistance....
if you use the standard port length with all those corners your tuning will drasticaly drop
not to mention the port noise that will probably be generated

for example.......adding a 90* corner to a 4" pipe is like adding 10ft of strait pipe

I used to make alot of labarynth ports that had the same problem..they end up hitting
much lower than attended

very cool scetch up though

Pioneer~Saturn
12-02-2008, 12:53 AM
Thanks :)...and yea, I cut down the turns on a couple newer designs for this...I could see it becoming a problem :crap:..not to mention the construction being very tedious (sp?) and time consuming :(

Might keep the shape though so it can fit nicely into a corner and probably keep the back of it at a 45 degree angle so there's space behind it to put a floor lamp or something so it doesnt hog the whole corner
