I need will be using 2 tower speakers and 2 rear speakers and a sub (separately powered) in one room, and then outdoors I will be using 2 rock speakers and 2 patio speakers to go up under the overhanging of the house. I want to be able to do the following:
1. watch tv and listen to music outside at the same time
2. listen to the same music inside and outside

So I need a receiver.... and an amplifier. Do I choose an 8 channel amp? Or do I just get 2 receivers and an amp?

This is a lot more confusing than car audio...

thanks, now what do you guys think of using a 7.1 receiver?

I forgot to mention there will be an additional 2 speakers in another room. I am thinking of going 5.1 in my main room and using the 2 extra channels in the 2nd room. THEN I hook up a 4 channel amplifier to the receiver to power the outdoor speakers....

Thoughts? Will this work?

exactly I think I am set on the MJ-18 and the 500 watt dayton amp, with the 7.1 surround for 5.1 in one room and 2 speaks in the 2nd.

Alright well I figured out it is wired a little differently than I thought. I will be using a separate receiver for music and TV. I have 8 speakers set up for music only.... 2 in the pool room, 2 in the big room, and 4 outdoors. Then I have my surround set up in the big room for 5.1 off of a separate receiver.

So, what are my options for powering 8 speakers? Can I use a 4 channel receiver for the 4 indoors, then strap an amp to it to power the 4 outdoor speakers?

Any input is appreciated, don't really know what I'm doing here.

Can anybody recommend me an 8 channel amp that is around $500? Don't need much power per channel.

hmm k I found a 6 channel amp, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_642ZS5300/Marantz-ZS5300.html?tp=180

Can I hook up a 6 channel amp to any regular receiver? It doesn't need to be like a 6 channel receiver or anything right.
