I have a Memphis MClass 12", and it says it is made for a sealed enclosure (which is what it is in now), but I've been wantin to put it in a slot ported box. Everyone I've talked to (basically the people going to sell the box to me) have said that it would be louder and sound better. Just wonderin if there was truth to this, or if they was just wantin to make money.

If the enclosure is built properly it should definately be louder. Sound better is a real subjective question that I really can't answer. :)

Would it be better to have a slot ported box or round ports? Or is that just preference?

Shouldn't be a noticable difference between the two if they are built to spec. Either would be fine.

Yep if properly built it should come down to a cosmetic decision. :)

What would be a good level to tune them to?

For daily listening or for competing ? :)

Probably more daily listening, but I would like to compete.

For daily listening I would tune it low. In the low 30's range. For competition you have to play around a little with your specific vehicle. And find out what's loudest. Each vehicle is different. And resonates at a different fequency. :)

Ok. Thanks. What would be a ball park figure for competition? If it's any help i will be in a 84 Tbird.

It will usually be in the forties or fifties. But it's really hard to say. :)
