when i use weldwood contact cememt to lay the carpet does it work as a polyurethane if not what can i use for a polyurethane , and to lay the carpet

Do you mean does the contact cement seal the wood ? Actually it does to an extent. But i wouldn't try using the box as a boat :D It's more of a "water repellant" than a " water proofer". If your really worried about making it completely water tight. Your best bet would be to coat the enclosure in fiberglass resin. Then use the contact cement to carpet the enclosure. but to be honest with you. Unless your putting it in a boat or your fish aquarium I wouldn't really worry about the resin :)

its not going near water, so the contact cememt will make it air tight if not what?

Just use a little fiberglass resin on the inside of the box. But If your cut's are straight. No need to worry about the resin. Just use some good wood glue. And silicon sealant ( the stuff that comes in a tube like caulk) on the seams inside. You will be good as gold. :)
