Looking for a new HU for one of my cars, does anyone know what the difference is between the Pioneer Premier 800PRS and 880PRS and what unit is better?

I've owned both. I liked the looks of the 800PRS better.

there is no difference worth going crazy over. the 800 has a black face and a copper plated chassis. the 880 has a silver face and a normal non copper plated chassis. those are the only differences.

if you can find a good, cheap, used 880 like i did then go for it.

Agreed, no difference other than the things stated. If your interested I have a 880 for sale. Check out my forsale section.

Also, if it is face color that may be a deciding factor try and find a non-commercial photo of the 880... it looks nothing like the Pioneer website, IMO. The face is actually a darker, gunmetal-like color. For more than $100 difference in price between the two, I would go for the 880. That one "atsaubrey" has for sale is a good deal.

black > 880PRS color

I agree! But it is hard to justify that for another hundred bucks or so.

true. I originally ordered the 880PRS but it was out of stock so i called and complained. they gave me a pretty darn good deal on the 800 so that wasnt an issue for me :D

For you guys that own/ have owned the 800,

How did you like it?
Did you like the ipod integration/ sq using the ipod?
Anything you didn't like?

It's a nice unit, with lots of features.

iPod integration was ok, not as fast as the full speed units, but not unbearable. SQ is really dependent on what bitrate the songs are ripped at. I rip all my music at 192 kb/s and I can barely tell a difference between the CD and the MP3, and thats while tuning in my driveway, once you hit the road and roll a window down, it's negligible.

No true pause button, or mute button, and had to scroll through a menu to adjust the sub level, the volume went up to 62 (loudest I went was 45) so it took a while to turn the volume down when needed.

A few things bugged me enough that I wont buy another Pio till they update it (maybe next year??)

Between my 9887 and the 880, there are things that either have that I really enjoyed, but neither of them had everything I wanted, I'm happier with the 9887.

No problem. Oh and if you're interested, I still have the iPod adapter for the 880/800PRS.

there is a mute and there is a pause button. at least when using a CD. there might not be a pause when using an ipod. it's been so long since i used my ipod in the car.

There are, but you have to shuffle through a menu to get to it. I want a physical button that I can press.
