I have never metered anything in my car, but when i had my 1989 Oldsmobile cutlass Calais sedan no matter what i put in there got pretty loud. My loudest two setups in my trunk of that car were 2 12" L7s with 500rms a piece in a prefab like 2cuft per chamber ported box, pretty loud but i was an amature at setting amplifiers and electrical strain and all that.

The last loud system i had was 2 12" mtx7500s in 4.5cuft @ 38hz common chamber sending 500rms to both. That thing was CRUCIAL!!!! Jeezy's white girl made me never want to go loud again. I figured out the only reason for loud is for competing and i do not do that, so i sold all my loud stuff and calmed all my equipment down.

I still have the car just sitting in our yard, but i think its going to like the salvation army or something because its in such bad of shape

I hit 146.8db, street C legal on the TL at the Calgary 1x show a month ago in my 2001 z24 Cavalier.
Setup was a single DD 9515 off a strapped pair of AB 150.1s. 2.7cuft box tuned to 43Hz. G34 Crappy Tire batt up front, Odyssey 2150 in the back, 4 runs of 1/0 front to back, 2/0 to the amps.
That was with absolutely no testing, tuning, tweaking of any kind; I finished putting everything together 10 minutes before qualifying rounds started, and didn't even have time to properly set gains or see where I peaked before running. First pass was a 145.7 @ 45Hz, second pass of 46.8 was at 48Hz. Me thinks I have room to climb. I just need to quit taking vacations and stop being lazy lol!

Go with the tens. They require less space which in turn allows for more port area available.

Just my opinion.:D

Well, I used to run one RD 1750.1 and a DD9515, that setup was doing 148.4s

not gonna really say I get LOUD, but IMO suprisingly loud for what I run....see my signature...135.5dbs with 2 RE8's and a PG Xenon400.1

havent tried metering with the Memphis PRD500.1 yet...dont even know IF there will be any increase as I have to keep the gain low,the subsonic filter at 40hz, and dont usually turn the radio up over 3/4 cause the RE's bottom out easily.....next comp I'll have to see, OR I may go to a local shop soon and have a friend of mine that works there meter me.

Try using Push That *****...track 8 on kings of crunk.

I built my girlfriends trunk, 2 Incriminator DR 12s and a sundown saz 1500.

Did a 145 firing back, does a 147 firing foward pushed all the way toward the back of the trunk.

Sounds great and peaks at 46 hz, in an 02 Honda Accord

well believe it or not
i have 2 boxes one box is 4.5cubes tuned to 31hz with a 64.75square inch port and its subs up port up and and i do a 144.2 @ 38hz
i change boxes to a 4.3cubes tuned to 35hz with 65square inch port sub back port back and my personal best was a 144.3 @38hz

i think if i turned it around and fire the subs forward i think my number will jump to a possible 145 and change..if i do a 146 im good...for now
but i want be louder so im thinking of changing my box and building a
4.9cube (3.75 after port and sub displacement) tune to 44hz and see wat happends...forward firing

It's plenty loud for daily, just doesn't meter that well since it peaks so low. Plan to drop the box down to around 7cubes and see what it does. Might also bump up tuning a few Hz's, but want to do one change at a time.

I'm hoping that by getting it to peak higher it'll hit harder for rock/metal also. I'll get it metered next month, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

Holy ####. Just realized Aburn is 45 minutes further than Oswego was, and that took 4 hrs to get there.

I'll still try to make it, but its going to be one expensive day if I do.

I might just save that money to put towards a pair of 10's. It's time to stop playing in the shadows.

This doesn't really belong in the trunk section, but here it is anyways.

I made this box as short and as narrow as possible, but it still came out as a cube. I will be able to remove my spare tire cover with this one. The wood was some old stuff I had around so it's kind of weathered. Let's hope it holds together.

"legal" score on the windshield all windows and doors closed (sealed up) on music was 142.xx ... .. like i said not much but pretty good for a 4door sedan in the trunk with 2 12's in a sealed prefab box ... ( also its a temporary setup )

nothing wrong with the tuning.....
I designed this enclosure for really strong low end...:D
the amp is a Crown BPX 2200.1..the car is a Ford Tempo

No offense but I do alot of bassracing and part of the rules is to keep the car sealed for the whole 30 secs. Iaasca Bass Boxing you can run with windows open I believe.

I know you say theres nothing wrong with the tuning you have, I also run a pr. of 10's. They will get that low but like to be around 40hz. Have you found your rez freq. in your vehicle?

Yep sealed on the dash,

Sub and port forward, sealed with mono foam around the opening, took 3 years to get here with this car we were using 2 12`s but to many cancellation issues and not big enough port.

Seeing every car is different best advice i can give is build a strong box, make it big and test test cut cut test test.

Hope this helps some

did it have alot of port area or just a rectangle in the center

i have a 6 cuft box with 3 187 tens ported out the drivers side with the subs firing into the cab so its not sealed off so im trying to think of a box that i can just drop in instead of building in the trunk

Mr. Opportunist
09-15-2008, 01:55 PM
It was a tube box, utilized concrete tubes one on the left and one on the right inside of a shell. Then the area between the two acted as the port. I don't have pics of either box anymore otherwise I'd post them.

Is it completely sealed off? When you open your trunk does the sound change?

Quick but probably dumb question Thor. By you making that port that big and sealing it off did it get louder to ear as well, or just the meter? Wanna do a daily/spl setup but don't want to sacrifice too much daily listening for it.

It's about 98% sealed.
Sound doesn't change any more with the trunk open. I'll show ya on Sunday;)

What all went into sealing it in your case? Expanding foam I'm assuming, and lots of it. What else did you use though? Also, if the time were to come, would you be able to undo this, or are you pretty much ****ed?

I'm interested in firing an 18 forward with port forward and sealing it, for daily of course :).

Sorry if you have already posted, but 10 pages is a lot of thread and my internet is the gay.

once I found the boxes sweet spot, pushed back up against trunk forward firing with port on drivers side, I built a wood floor and added 2 sides and a top to the box extending forward to the back of the seats. There I used alot of foam, tape, glue, L brackets etc...

I can easily take the walls off and pull the box out as a whole. In fact I plan on doing so in the spring and try a 12in port.

That should be  indeed. haha. I am considering doing this, well, not as all out as you probably since I won't be competing (**** big *** batteries), but I'm curious as to how expanding foam comes off of the interior. Haha :p:

BTW, you should definitely change the sig. Your bassless for now and everyone knows it. ;)

Not so good but if you use plastic and some tape to hold it in place it comes off real easy.

Ah this is a very good idea.. I think once I find what 18 I want to go with I may have to do this...!

How's it effect the sound of it? Does it sound as good as it does unsealed? I'm not sure what exactly sealing it does, other then making it louder. Does it diminish SQ or increase it?

thorshammer1

I think it enhanced it. I really think it sounds more responsive at lower volume levels.

Ah good to know then. I'm going for a daily system and listen to a lot of rock/acoustic/electronic music and I like some SQ with my stuff. Not too much of course, but everything is nice in moderation.

And lmfao at your edit reason, you spelled cause wrong, and you edited for spelling. I laughed out loud. lmao.

ive always had just street beaters all in the 135-142 range
so now im building a more spl type of box (not saying thats all yours is for, really im just tuning higher than 30 hz for once)
but i will make plugs for the port so i can jam my songs i screw

wow 53hz. Your gonna want plugs def. to help tune lower for daily.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad to see my ideas are inspiring others.:D

I can't take all the credit. Egg (SPL140.2) Sold me these Nice Woofas! He also gave me his box he had in the Neon to get me started. I continued on his design which was a stardard Lport. I kept the same interior space for the subs and stretched the port. Gained 2 db.;)
