Getting ready to start the install on my nephews 94 civic.

He's 15 I found him the car for 1500 bucks, he got a paint job, new windshield, and new mirrors put on for another 1200. And I'm gonna do the system for him

System is gonna look like this....

3 Sundown SD-1 10s
Sundown SAE 1000d
Sundown SAE 100.4

EFX 6.5 componets up front
EFX 6x9s on the rear deck

I promised Jacob it would be the sexiest install on his site thats what I'm gonna give him ;)

Tweeters are going to be molded into the a pillars with midbass in the doors running passive.

Will be building a false floor and flush mounting the amps, doing a fiberglass sealed box for the 10s...box for the 10s should look something like I did for the back of my old truck...similar to this

http://www.termpro.com/dbdrag/photos/E8338W1M15261P26C.jpg

I know you can't really see the shape of the enclosure but it will be VERY similar.

Subs will look to be sunk into the enclosure.

I figure this will be a GREAT setup for a 15 year old haha!

pics of the car and the tear down to come tomorrow

we own a heating and air business. And all the old units we change out go into our yard behind our house.

After a few months we get a nice little collection up and we break them down and scrap everything.

They have copper/aluminum coils in them that go for around 1.75 per pound and the coils average 45 pounds each. So you can make a good chunk of change off of them.

He broke them down and got around 4200 bucks out of it. I'm doing the whole install for him...to help out Jacob and to give me a chance to try some different things with some fiberglass.

That's not much money. Especially if he's not really paying for the work (I'm assuming beer money will be exchanged, but not much else). I could have easily payed for the car, the initial fixes, and the equipment when I was his age. No bills at the time afforded me a lot of expendable income. Those were the days:crap:

I'm sorry but unless you grew up when there were no labor laws or your parents own a business or you were so spoiled as a kid that ur parents gave you a 3 figure allowance than at 15 you would not have been paying for that....sounds like ur newphew paid a lil high on a windshield mirrors and paint...1200 is way high.

well, jake is hooking me up good on product for my other build...(i have about 10 saz 1500s sittng here and just a "few" nightshades on the way) so I figure I kind of owe him a nice install for his website.

Looking at his site where there aren't any real cool installs, having something I built on a manufacturers page as a featured vehicle would be kind of cool.

Plus my nephew loves the idea of it haha.

1200 for the paint, windshield, and mirrors was pretty cheap around here. Have you priced body work/labor/paint/clear recently? that stuff is super high now :(

1200 high for paint? RIGHT... I painted my truck a while back and just materials would have been way more. Luckly I didnt have to pay for materials and doing it your self helps.

well i've just priced paint for my car and its only 40 a qt. clear is 89.90 for a gallon and primer is only 40 for a half gallon...so by my calculations 120+90+40=230...and i do all my own labor and these are dupont paint from Finishmaster.

The car had a bunch of ghetto wiring in it...was cutting out all the old speaker wire, then I got in the car to move it and it wouldn't start. So I'm thinking wtf is going on?

I pull the back seat out and of course I see this...

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/teamsubgopoof/Jordans%20Civic/005.jpg

they used speaker wire for the fuel pump lol. So I have to add that to the list of wire to fix

i'm sure you have a finishmaster in alabama....if not i feel sorry for you guys....i know my prices down here are good thats why i was saying 1200 for paint, mirrors and windshield was expensive..and the guy who's materials to paint his truck cost more than 1200 what were you painting your car in bj cream? cuz that 1200 for materials would make someone go to econo for 300 and get a paintjob.

k ive seen you talk about painting and prices on supplies twice and your prices are for some sub par materials. A good paint job runs well over the prices you put i guess for a sub par job you could quote the prices you listed :crap:

cj407
08-09-2008, 05:01 PM
yea b/c dupont paint is sub par....right...and finishmaster cheap ****? ha finishmaster carries HOK so i dont know how that would be cheap maybe you 2 could explain that one to me. neither me nor my roomate have had any complaints about paint jobs we have done using dupont paint. The difference between HOK paint and Dupont is like comparing Jif peanut butter to walmart brand...its the same stuff and looks the same only difference is you FEEL like ur getting better quality with the more expensive one.

nope not painting vehicles for 300....painting MY vehicle for under 300... and to anyone who wants a top notch paint job...you have to pay top notch money...by the time we get done its gonna be like the color was already there(if you pay the money). but if you wanna lowball and be cheap we do cheap work(leave door jams, seals, engine bay, under the hood original color and no wet sand and buff before its delivered or picked up by u)

It was sikens. Theres more then just paint. Theres hardeners, reducers, primers, scuff pads, sand paper, etc. Also did you think about what it cost to run a paint booth for the hour you spend spraying everything? what about the 45 minute bake cycle? and the time you run the compressor. Sure I could have gone to some cheap store and bought cheap paint but if you ever looked at cheap paint next to nice stuff you can tell the differance. Paint will lay different for different qualities. My truck has many layers of paint on it so of course your goning to use more paint.

I guess that dosent matter when you just scuff real quick and spray it in your garage or something.

Well, my nephew made 90% of the money helping us with the heating and air business.

The other he made from helping me break down some old units and recycling them.

I started on his A pillars today, I'll have some pics tomorrow :)

Equipment also showed up this past week...

3 SD 10s, Sae 1000d, sae 100.4, scosche 6.5 componets, scosche 6x9s, scosche 0 gauge amp kit

should be a pimp install when its finished
