View Full Version : Eclipse Wall Build

hazardous0388
07-31-2008, 09:11 PM
This will be a new wall build going into my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I got the floor in the backseat done today. I painted the metal body body of the vehicle (inside the vehicle) flat black. I made three feet to hold the floor flat, and use L bars to mount the back of the board to the lip between the hatch and that back seat.

Subs for this build are still up in the air...may be doing 2 Soundstream SPLX 15s, or maybe an 18. Still unsure of what the subs will be...

alright. the wall panel is cut and sanded on all edges. it looks nice. i will more then likely be wraping it in vinel (sp), if i dont find a paint that i like. also, i talked to snoop dan on how to seal everything off and he gave me a good idea that i will be doing.

anybody have any ideas where i can get good black material that i can put over the wall panel? any input is appreciated.

Thanks
Dustin

Aroc - I already had all my rear panels out of my vehicle for my 2 10s, since it allows for a bigger box and more box design opportunities. i have no rear seats in the vehicle but have the rear side panels in and they will remain in. will post more pics tomorrow.

Bones-- where would you suggest I buy the bedliner from?

Now that I'm looking at the pics from home I can see you pulled the back panels I've done the same.
Right now I have a a HDC315 in a 3.5 cubic box there.

Sub up port back dont know if it would be louder with a differnt orientation??
Did you hit 149 with the box as it is in the pics susb forward and port to the driver side?

I'd like to know how you got that wire under the driver side??? lol

i hit the 149.4 with the subs foward and ports to the side. i was able to get my 6 runs of 1/0 under the carpet by taking out the front seat, pulling up the carpet and runnin it directly under the front seat. i used an Air-Saw and cut out a big chunk of my firewall to allow all the cabling to fit through it.

My cousin use to have 2 spl 170's in his extended cab dakota, they were sealed and running off a crappy audiobahn hc2300, but still got pretty freakin loud.

I tried talking him into getting a new amp and doing a wall, or atleast a low tuned ported box, but ended up knocking off the tensil leads and trading them for some cheap radio shack subs...

I bet I can get the subs off the kid really cheap if he still has them.

Hopefully i will also have the battery rack and the mounting board for the amps done before i get the subs. Will try to get them done tomorrow.

the box does seem tiny for two 15s but i made it relative to Soundstreams specs. they prefered 2 cu ft MINIMAL ported, with one 4 inch aero port...and 3 cu ft OPTIMAL, with 2 4 inch aero ports each woofer. the box before displacements is 6.60 cuft. after sub displacments that leave 6.4 cu ft. and after port displacements thatll leave between 5.5-6.0 cu ft left in the box. I do hope everything sounds ok when it is all said and done though.

Two SoundStream SPLX 15s. I just applied the 3rd Layer of the High Gloss black paint tonight and it will be dry in the morning. They will be tuned to 43 hz, with 4 4-inch aero ports, each 10.25 inches long Flare to Flare. I will hopefully have the subs by next week.

i would almost bet that box is still gonna flex unless you glass the inside or brace it better. For those subs it may be about right, i have heard a set of them in person they got decently loud......i don't think that they will outdo the 10's you had though.

tuning will help though.

jason

hazardous0388
08-12-2008, 04:30 AM
I will be adding more bracing to the box. I havent screwed the baffle or wall piece to the box yet...just letting paint dry. I will be doing 5 cylinder bracings from front to rear...one in each corner, and one dead center...that way i get all areas braced good. I messed with the 10s for about 2 months to get them where they ended at. I never said I was done with them, they will sit in the garage for now with the box and aeros that were used...I wanted to do a nice build, and something that would give me my hatch back. This is defiantly going to look/sound nice and everything seems to be falling into place...

Well the carpet is skin tight on my car I dont see how you could be doing it without a huge bulge in the ground all the way threw, if you did manage to make it look clean I'd like to see as I might be doing the same upgrade in the near future.. :p:

As far as sealing and sound deadner/foam what did you do in the trunk?? I know for this build it wont matter more so wondering what you have done since you managed almost 150 with those 2 10's . What did you do to seal the sides of the trunk mine go into the shell of the car and I emagine loosing seriouse SPL if I fired the way you did.... :crap:

I hated my 2002 GTS. Was nice at first, but after the car insurance and 500 dollar car payments for 3 plus years till I paid off and the premium gas I had to run, I am glad I am rid of that car.

Very small as well. I am only 5-10 and felt like a sardine in there. Hit a bump and you are banging your head and had my seat all the back with a ghetto lean! Was ghetto lean because only way I could feel comfortable. Should be a 2 seater to be honest. No rear room what-so-ever!

It drove nice for the most part, besides turns. Worst turning radius ever!

If you like the car, then go for it. Just throwing my 2 cents in as I owned one.

To the OP good luck on the build. Is cool to see a big build in a car I used to own. Good luck with it.

Nice :), curious to see the #'s. Also I don't recall if you said what it is or will be tuned to? I will have to take a listen when you get everything tuned.

its tuned around 38 hz...but the box does not have seperate chambers so i will have to use the termlab to figure out true tuning. its different then the 10s just for the fact that i had the tens tuned alot higher, and im hearing the difference in the freq range which sounds good to ear. i will raise the tuning soon

Looks good so far. Just a little cleaning up to do with a little tuning and you'll be good.

Jeff -

I took out the tubes so now it is just flare-flare. it did raise it up alot...although it raised it quite a bit. i will be putting in the original tubes for the first apx box that fired to the side, each tube is only about 1 inch i believe...

and i will be moving the box back farther tomorrow.

whats going on. i'm new here. i was wondering what kind of numbers are you doing with this wall? i'm having trouble getting my eclipse to pull a good number on a term lab. 144.9dbs all day long with the same subs as you are running. check out my signature. if you can help me out i need to know what you have it tuned at,port size, what kind of ports and how many and bracing for the inside of the box.. PLEASE HELP

dont have this setup anymore....never actually got to doing the 2x4s to seal everything off or anything...just kind of ditched it because i didnt want to ruin the car. check out the new build log for my vehicle though. just click on my username and look at my new build. includes two audioque hdc315s and a stetsom 4k2d.

doing a 150.7 in usaci street beat 3...and 148.8 in M4 in meca. but i will be adding the third spare battery on sunday immediatly before the meca show that day. hopefully will do a new number.

i only used 4 4-inch aeros. that was the soundstream specs but the soundstream specs are WRONG!!!! don't go by them. call soundstream and get in touch with the tech department and they will direct you with an enclosure better. the soundstream subs from the t4's-t5s, splx's, and the XXX 15s actually love bigger enclosures more then anything. if you have room for it, then give each splx 4.5 cuft after discplacements, and use a single 6 inch aero for each sub.
