Look at kenwood too, their lower models have usb too.

you are going to have trouble powering that large of a hardrive off of a USB
Most usb outputs only put out 500mA, you need atleast a full amp before those larger HD will spin
look for a harddrive usb y cable
one for power the other for audio
you might have to run some new power wires also

I hope the HD is a passport/pocket one, the one that does not require a power adapter.
And Pioneer supports HD's upto 250 GB.

How does the HU interface with an external HD? I didn't know this could be done.

^^quite a few decks have this feature now....kenwood is the best imo.

yes they can read up to 250gb but they cannot power them

Lol, so it was you. I remembered that thread where you had trouble making pioneer read your 250gb hd, just couldn't remember your s/n.

I have one of those AC plug things where my cig lighter goes so powering it is not a problem, as far as reading it though, what would actually do it without many drastic changes

I'll have to look into that, it'd be a lot better than an ipod as far as capacity but not sure about the navigation.
