Figured I'd throw up the build log of my expedition.

I went and picked up the first 2 DP 21s off the assembly line

what's the date on this build?

TSGP

started the end of june, picked the woofers up the weekend of July 8th because I took it to a meca show

TSGP

I wasn't gonna post up pics of the build so I don't have any pics prior to this...

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/teamsubgopoof/014-2.jpg

took the factory door panel wrapped it and glassed, couple of layers of kitty hair and bondo on it and sanded fairly smooth.

TSGP
07-29-2008, 05:30 PM
Then we had to attach pieces of wood to the back of the panel in order to screw it to the top part of the door panel from the back, this way it not only strengthens the panel and the door but if you use enough screws it won't rattle or take a chance of falling off the door lol

Didn't get any pics of the process of molding out the a pillars...wasn't much to it though.

Cut the panel where the tweeter would be located, ca glued the tweeter pod in place and took a little bondo and molded up to the cup. Very simple to do and has a pretty factory look to it when completed with minimal curves on the panel.

And sprayed back with ppg paint that was mixed to be a pretty close interior match.

btw: didn't use texture paint becuase the texture on the dash and doors is totally different then the texture paint and the gloss finish looks kind of classy but not overdone

ya know...I used to think I did...

But looking back its not that I hated the people or the site, I'm just used to a place like termpro where I personally know 95% of the people there. And most are knowledgeable competitors.

CA.com is a place where the average joe comes. Gets help on a nice daily driving system and is happy.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying that termpro is superior but its a totally different demographic of people

Its hard to keep everything clean and out of the way when using a lot of componets for an install.

I had a maxxlink and a memphis epicenter laying here so I figured I'd use them but we couldn't figure out a place to put them....after a couple of hours of planning and some cutting we found a place to stash them.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c294/teamsubgopoof/006-2.jpg

before someone says it...I didn't want to do a ton of power per woofer (yet). The subs are rated 1500w rms so thats what I put on them. Was trying to show just what RMS on a woofer in a daily driver setup could achieve.

I wasn't gonna compete at all this season, but there are a hundred meca shows around me so I'm gonna go to meca finals. Probobly switch out to 8 12s and 8 1500s for finals though

Neat looking box. What's the tuning?

Its not as big as the woofers need by a stretch. Its just like 12 cubes after displacements :(

But its tuned around 35 hz on paper so a little lower after you put it in a vehicle

Got the doors finished up!

You can't tell from the pics, but I have an eclipse 3 way set up front, midbass in the doors, midrange in the factory 5x7 location, and tweeter on the sail panel bridged on the sax 100.4

it JAMS and sounds FANTASTIC

Tweeter protection kicks in on the eclipses though which is one thing I forgot about. Next step is take the doors apart and get the crossover out and bypass that.

enclosure was flexing a little so I had to take care of that...inside the enclosure now has 10 braces top to bottom and L braces off of those into the sides...its super strong now :)

new box is gonna be built in a couple of weeks though, try to get another couple of cubes out of it

you hearing any port noise????? whats that like 40 square inches per 21"? at least it looks that way.

TSGP

numbers?

Got it playing, threw it on the meter the first night on the dash just for fun, did a 149.4...i'm thinking wtf something is wrong. Went to the show that weekend and then tore the headliner down and did 2 layers of deadener on the roof and on the roof supports. And 2 layers on the inner and outter skin of the hatch.

Tested again and it did a 151.9...at 38 hz....thats more like :D

The enclosure is definately wrong for these woofers, gonna try a few more things with it before I build another one though. Might keep this for a fallback box just in case.

But I guess really for >3000 watts a 152 isn't bad but I'm used to having a 160+ vehicle

haha no port noise at all, even if you had 20 sq inches of port per as long as the port was built right you wouldn't have any noise lol

But yeah, the port is wayyy too small but it just tunes it lower, had to do the triangle port because the woofers are 12'' deep, if i did a port along the bottom the subs would have hit it. I think I have right at 130 sq inches with that port

Next enclosure will be a few inches taller and subs will be all the way toward the front of the truck and I'll probobly use aeroports

They jam pretty good, I'm impressed for sure.

Thats part of the reason I did the enclosure like that.

I could have built another 6'' taller and had plenty of airpsace for them but the big boxes above the back seats look tacky. I know i'm an SPL guy at heart but I like having things look nice too

Those 3 ways are the loudest componets I've ever heard. I had 2 sets in my old 2500 that would keep up with 161+ from 10 death penalty 12s and 2 maxximus'

if you have plenty of power for these things I don't know of a better sounding, louder componet set

Well in some ways..

Kinda contradictory and wrong wouldn't you say?

Edit: I wouldn't have said anything, just that you bashed the people of this forum, I kinda took offense to you saying the people of this forum ****. Though I'm just a "joe" and have just a daily system.

you won't have port noise with a small port if you build it right...this is true...

the port is too small for this enclosure...and it would be louder with more port area...this is also true :)

and what I mean by that is I usually like to have between 15-25 sq inches of port per cubic ft.

Right now I have under 90 sq inches for an enclosure that is around 13 cubes....yeah its too small for the box...and what happens when you have a smaller port for a big enclosure? It tunes it lower....jesus some people just look for ways to attack me

My enclosure for my 21 is going to be almost head level in the back of my truck :crap:

Won't look as good as if it sat lower, but hopefully it will be kinda loud :D

I took my old truck to a Clash of the Titans show a couple of years ago with 3 9917s and 6 20.1s.

It was hilarious! The truck would do a 159.8 on the dash, and it did like a 170.2 at the clash show it was great haha

New build is getting ready to start!

Either gonna be 8 Incriminator DR 12s or 8 Nightshade 12s. On 8 1500s.

Gotta find a place to stick 2 more batts and find time to get an alt on.

Going to Biloxi Wed. Then I get to start on the build :)

MECA people talking ish I gotta go represent haha
