I put something very similar in a buddies Explorer using a single RE MT 18" and a Hifonics Colossus. It did a 148.xx on the dash and murdered the lows. He loved it.

good to hear haha...whats the RMS on that amp

plus i was told by IonSQL that the output will not be effected any diffrent from sub facing forward and sub facing upward he said that the only thing that will be diffrent is more upward trunk flex...

It puts out 2500 at 1ohm, and I have the gains set a little below half. Im scared to turn them up anymore it feels like im getting punched in the head tuned to 40hz lol.

It shouldnt matter really which way you face it, facing up just may make your trunk rattle a little more.

how close it the spare tire well to the opening of the trunk? thats how i got an 18 to fit in my 4 door civic before

im putting my box threw my back seat...not threw the trunk hell if i did the opening of the truck id barely be able to fit 10s :(

thats what i meant, through the back seat. i had about 15" for a box, and got an extra 4" by using the spare tire well as part of the bottom of the box

i vote for massive nice bump, might not sound the best in the world, but how the hell you plan fittin that in a cavi? removin back seat?

tapout383
07-29-2008, 01:10 AM
did alot of metal cutting and i have to remove the lower part of the back seat

tapout383

and not much will sound good in a cavalier if you have anything that hits at the least bit the window will actually rattle against the ****ing back medal panel making a horrible noise..

Shouldn't be hard, I got a 5 cube box in this GA with room to spare (trunks actually a few inches smaller than a cavi too). I aimed my in cabin, and fold the seat down when I'm in, and its nice. Angle the face so it's 19", and drop it in like that

edit:
Yea i know that window prob... Some silicone fixed that ;)

and I had to saw-zall the rear deck out to the 6x9's to get the box in, take back seat out, and one front (wouldn't go through back door). But once it was in (wasn't that hard, just heavy), i could've made a bigger box.

I just contemplated putting a 18 in here (facing the rear deck, I'd cut the rest out though), same one actually, but decided against it.

wow, thus why you should cut more and just put 2 of them bad boys and have bass loud enough to drown out all rattleing!:D

yeah cavalier trunks are rather big believe it or not just hard as **** to get **** in there with out modification and having to loose other things in the process

i was actually thinkg at one time of taking the whole **** seat out but i didnt really want to wall :( poor little 2.2 struggles as it is with 18 inch rims and 120lb in battriers 90-100 in sub and box and then my skinny *** probably get 22-25 mpg with last system

tapout383
07-29-2008, 01:20 AM
ive been cocking(caulking) mine pretty good too but havent had a system in a while to test it :-D

so ur box was taller then the braces were at. me to. i use a left over peice of mdf to hold my trunk up.

tapout383
07-29-2008, 01:48 AM
yeah that box was 20 inchs tall...but that whole system is now in the blue s-10 with rims in that picture

mazdakid
07-29-2008, 08:25 AM
if that box is 20" tall then how cant you fit an 18 facing forward? its just going to rattle everything facing up, i wouldnt do it that way

plus i was told by IonSQL that the output will not be effected any diffrent from sub facing forward and sub facing upward he said that the only thing that will be diffrent is more upward trunk flex...

I would think that there would be a difference. Only way to find out is to test it out on the meter.

mazdakid
07-29-2008, 06:35 PM
moving the box around a few inches can increase the output, how can you say that facing the sub a different direction will be no different?

Bump for good thread. I rethought out the idea of throwing one in my GA, and I think I'm gonna do it. I think the box is 16" tall, so I'll have to angle the front to get a 18 in there.

Would 5 cubes be too little for a 18"? I know that you're planning on doing 5.5, but I know people have them in 6,7 and 8 cubes, just wondering what's too small for them considering there's no info on aq.com about them

tapout383
08-15-2008, 01:36 AM
dj his self said for SPL 5.5-6 around 38-40

tapout383
08-15-2008, 01:38 AM
and the box was 20 inchs tall but it was also only 20 inchs in dept which only came out to 4.5 cubes thus the reason it will be firing up
