Alright its finally happening... 6 months in dreaming (car is 6 months old) 6 months without subs (traded in my old car and ripped out the stereo) and I am finally in a possition to be able to do this install...

So here it goes!

All I have done to date (did it today actually) is the BIG 3. Without further adue... PICS!

For the entire gallery see http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/gallery/000142qz

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0011fdya

Stock wiring... gotta love it. At first I was impressed with the stock wiring... all 4GA! but! if you look closely there at that black peice between the red stuff... yup thats right... 8 GA connect two 4GA... grrr. WHY!??!??! Oh well doesnt matter no more.

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0011h7a4

going for the sorta stock look... even got the starter soilenoid wire running in there and it looks really sweet all mounted up.

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0011wptr

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0012203c

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/001231sa

And there you have it... BIG3!

Completely replace stock wiring. 1/0 from batt to starter, alt, and block. 4ga from batt to body and fuse box (like 4" runs). Already I noticed a difference when I roll down my windows. Before if I rolled down/up more then one window you could hear the motor slow down and strain. Now they stay full power even with all four rolling up with the sun room closeing!

Next week I am running 1/0 from the alt (pos and neg) to the trunk to connect to my HC1400. Also installing a stinger isolator relay and hopefully running all my speaker wire and interconnects... sub box sometime after that.

Let me know what you think thus far!

BTW Yes I am redoing the tape by the battery... looks god awful...

Tell me that the Big 3 is not the easiest thing to do in that car. I got a 04 Crown Vic and everything is so easy to get to. My Battery - to ground is so short I prob could have solder two 0/1 gauge rings together for it lol.

What are you planning to run for the rest of the system? Nice pics so far.

While the new MGM's and CV's are fairly easy to do Big 3... nothing beats my 75 LTD lol.

No the MGM was very easy. It was a little tight getting to the starter but nothing crazy. I cut my knuckles more cleaning the engine bay then I did running the cable lol. I do love how the fuse box is right there in front of the battery though, so sweet. Every peice of electronics in the car goes though that box and that short 4GA wire there. I didn't feel the need to put 1/0 there cause it is so short and my stereo will get seperate 1/0 power and ground runs to the back straigh from the alt.

The rest of the system right now is going to be a HC1400 batt in the trunk with some 1/0 going to ground and power knu konceptz distro's. Up next to the spare tire in the trunk I am going to install my Alpine PDX4.150 and Memphis 1000D amplifiers. For now I will be running some Memphis PR Coax's (6.5" O/S) in the front and some M-Class 6x9's in the back. once I have some cash I will be upgrading to either HSK165's or MLK165's in the front. For subs right now I will be putting in my 4 10" Memphis PR's but I plan to upgrade to 2 12" DD 2500's again as soon as I have some cash. Right now I am focusing on install more then components. With the install in place the individual components are easier to put in.

Very clean and nice car too. Got any pics of the car?

Also question about those battery terminals. I was thinking about getting some of those or the next step down that knu sells. Do they have some way to pop the cover off and attach a battery charger or jumper cables? or would I be SOL if I needed to do something like that with those terminals?

Not to hate on the terminals man i had em but wasn't a fan of em really. Buss bars FTW:D. but over all man looking good and clean.

any updates?

Well I have been doing a lot of work and taking pics... just havent had time to upload them yet!

I got the cable run to the trunk for my HC1400, built my amp rack, mounted the HC1400, ran interconnects and speaker cable, installed 6x9's in the rear deck (made MDF baffles), and yeah... lots of stuff lol

Hopefully this weekend I can get started on my sub box and upload some pics!

Thanks!

I'll take some pics of the car this weekend and post them with the rest.

I never really thought about it... in my case I would just hook up jumper cables to my isolator and a bracket on the engine. I would think you would scrath the finish on the blocks if you tried to put any kinda of jumper/charger clamps on them.

I like em... they look sweet and the compression fittings are a god send. But yes for praticallity and easy of use ring terminals and buss bars are a good way to go. If going for maximum power its the only way to go. But I am going for a clean good looking install =D

Thats what I was worried about, I wasn't sure if you could pop the cover off on them and be able to connect to them or not. I'm also looking for a clean install (hopefully half as clean as yours and I will be happy) but would really like to keep that functionality.

Well the plastic covers come off easy enough. And you could clamp jumpers to the 20mm compression fittings without much harm I would think... just don't try to clamp to the main unit as it would just get all scratched.

Though I never need a jump and if I was jumping someone I would probably just use my rear battery lol

For subs right now I will be putting in my 4 10" Memphis PR's but I plan to upgrade to 2 12" DD 2500's.

do 2 9515's. thats what i wanted to do before i bent the frame on my 01 Marquis. i missed that car :crying:

had 1 9515 in there. it was loud.

why did you want the ultimate? for the air suspension?

want to trade for my Caddy?

I would need to seriously upgrade my amp then. And really the 4 10's are loud enough for me but lacking in SQ. 2 12's or 1 15" will give me more flexibility in box design and I can run 2 12's @ 1 ohm on my current amp.

I got the ultimate edition because it had all the features I wanted minus 1... the dual exaust. Which I would replace the stock dual exaust anyway so its not a big deal.

The car is fully loaded (minus the dual exaust) and yes the air suspension was a big selling point. It is incredible how much the air suspension actually helps in cornering and what not (not to mention gives a very nice ride). the other main features are the leather interior, heated seats, power moon roof, premium audio (more like crap audio), traction control, and thats all I can remember at the moment. I love the car =D

And no thanks... I like my Marquis =D

***** you bent your frame on your 01... I bent the frame on my 75 LTD and am still looking for one to replace it... miss that car so bad. Probably the biggest reason I got the 07 MGM cause it so much similar to my old 75. Too bad my 07 didn't have the 7.5L like my 75 lol.

on mine i put the dual exaust with glasspacks. i miss the sound :crying:

i didn't even know there was a ultimate edition till i went to a dealer and seen one. i wish my stupid bank would of approve the loan for another Marquis.

i don't think you would want that 7.5L with gas prices now.

come on. you know you want a Caddy :)

My old 7.5 got just as good gas milage as my new 4.6 does in the city. Highway though... yeah the 4.6 wins.

I just love the sound of my old 460ci with its four barrell carb opened right up... miss it soo much :(

Ok Update. The install is pretty much done but I only have pics of the sub box uploaded... so I will post about that.

This is my second box build (see first here http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/gallery/000109rh) and is my first own design... Built entirely with Mr. Ryobi router and a air brad nailer (and some elmers wood glue and silicone)

The Design... two 2.5^3 net chambers w/ two 2" x 19.875" ports tuned to 36Hz.

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00126qph

The trunk...

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0010ypd6

I dont have a garage or anything to work in so I had to do this all out side... thus the tarps and stuff to cover stuff up lol.

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/001278xc

I cheated... I got the wood cut to rough size at a local hardware store (where I bought the MDF) cause I dont have a table saw :(

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00128sax

Mr. Ryobi router cutting wood to finish length

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/001291yq

Since I wasn't using the most accurate means to cut to finish length... I would cut one peice to length and then line it up to its opposite peices (IE side to side to middel and top to bottom) and use the flush trim bit to make them exactly the same.

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0012bx3h

Worked pretty good actually... I did the same thing with the front and back. Once I got them on I ran around the entire box with the flush trim bit to make all the edges flat. I think I made good due without a table saw :D

Both ports in and clamped to dry (couldnt get nails in on the one edge of the port... lots of clue and silicone it will hold =D)

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0012phd8

I love my flush trim bit =D

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/0012q0ze

Guess I missed one... the front got int here somewhere... heh. Before the ports went in...

Next day (bought a new bit for rounding the port)

Very nicely done, specially with your tools and working environment. Got any pics of it loaded up with the subs or in the trunk? Does that box fit up under the rear parcel shelf where the spare tire is currently sitting? or is it down on the floor of the trunk? Sweet build for sure.

It will be sitting down on the floor of the trunk with the subs firing to the rear. The amp rack is up to the left of the spare tire and the spare tire is still there.

I don't have it in the car yet. Currently it is still where you see it in that last pic. Tonight though ;)

Sounds wonderful, box is a lil big a 4 cubic feet and I have a low tune with 28hz
but grabs all the notes extremely well, even the uppers. Output is suprising as well its around the same when I had my (4) AA Assassin 12" sealed back there.

Hey! Were you the one over at that other car audio forum (can't remember its name... all I know is it went away) when I was asking about cars to get? I was describing things I didn't like about my beretta and enquried about CV's MGM's and someone came in with a 2004 CV with 4 12" AA's... you?

Yeah I dont plan to ever sell my car! lol I want my trunk space back though :( thinking maybe 2 12's or a single 15 to try and cut down on box size and keep output... SPL is not my biggest thing... I Just want to feel it.

Yup it was on carstereo.org. Talking about getting a CV or MGM and then decided on a Marauder... (i think it was your video of your 12's that pushed me in the panther direction again (I miss my 75 :() but I be ****ed fi i can find a marauder anywhere near me for sale (and the ones I do find that are far away are just as much as my 2007 I bought :wow:)

and besides... few engines mods (swap head for DOHC, bigger intake... ect) I will basically havea marauder minus the cool looking center console/floor shift. Meh my GF can sit in the middle of this car next to me

If you guys dont mind putting up with my crappy phone vid's... I will try and find a deserted area later to go do it in (relatively small city... dont want to advertise my system anywhere)

EDIT:

Also thinking of getting something like this http://www.batterystuff.com/battery-chargers/24-volt/gel-cell/GU2607A.html and mounting it under my hood to maintain my batteries.

There some pics of my car and the isolator I installed on the weekend. That officially signifies the end of my build for now.

Sorry for the dirty engine bay... havent had a chance to clean it...

And you can see where I tapped into the stock harness with the blue wire for true ignition on for the isolator. I got the relay number for it from my manual, opened up the main fuse box there by the battery and got scared away by the rats nest (the wires i mean). However I used that to trace the ignition wire through the harness where I melted the insolation on the wired and soldered my new wire to it there. Worked out well actually. As it stands now on idle I have a .06v drop between the front battery and the back battery.

More pics tonight or tomorow... I promise!

Sadly, no audio for the time being, Pioneer HU is being serviced, my cheap JVC is powering my stock 5x7s just to give me something to listen too. Soundsplinter RL-p and box are in my house for the moment. Got my active setup just looking at me everyday since I dont have the bread for my kick panels :crap:.

Really looking foward to those final pics with the enclosure installed, trying to get a few ideas.:)

Beautiful car man, this thread has been alot of motivation for myself to get mine finished at some point.

That's funny as your old setup was my inspiration to buy this car and do this build lol.

As promised here are some more pics...

Alt to front and rear batt pos and alt to rear batt neg.

I run the cables underneath the car and tucked them up next to the frame (secured with some heavy zip ties) and then brought them up into the trunk through a body plug shown below.

Driver side speaker tweeter went after a couple weeks (was only getting 20wrms so I have absolutely no idea wtf went on there)

Dont fit as nicely behind my doors but they work. Crossover's look much nicer on these pioneers then the memphis and I think its the crappy crossover on them that is the culprit to the blowing tweeter.

Also I want to go components but not sure where to put the tweeter... am currently thinking of modding the sail panels and putting them there. I already have the bi-wire in the doors so might as well take advantage of it there isntead of pulling the wire back out for the a-pillar...

lol at "stock"

But, from personal experence, I would suggest the molded sail for the tweeters. Ive surface mounted several there with my speakers in my stock opening and it worked out great. I would do my current ones there, but their a lil big :).

Plus, my mids are going to be in my kick panels.

Where is that body plug you mention? I think im going to run my wire under the car like you did, makes for a much easier run.

Yeah I think I will do it in the sail... if I do it right you wont even know they are there unless you really look.

That body plug is on the passenger side of the trunk. Just pull back the carpet and you will see it there.

Dual exaust definitly. true dual with flowmaster 40's (or magnaflow 18's havent decided yet) and marauder tips. will be sweet!

Yes it will, im currently running Flowmaster 40 series, but I waited to get the marauder tips because my back end was a little low, and I didnt want to take the chance to scrape them. A spring spacer in each spring in the back has taken care of that for me.

And I found the plug, that works perfect for me. I was going to put my batteries there (Deka G31) one on each side and its a plug on each side so wiring shoud be a peice of cake. :veryhapp:

Yeah I pulled back the carpet the first time and thought "now aint that perfect" as that is where my battery is lol. I then run from there up the fender, in behind the spare tire, over to the amps.

I almost bought the baby blue 2008 model... then found this 2007 model for $10,000 less lol.

Marauder rims with the tips and that color would look very nice together, and Im a huge fan of black interiors. Im redoing mine and painting the car as soon as the audio is finished.

More Pic's!

These are of the battery mount. Sorry I didn't take more.

Speedy nuts in the trunk for mounting battery

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/001550g5

I searched far and wide (drove around for a couple hours to auto parts stores) looking for a battery holder and got frustrated... so I made this (with trusty Mr. Ryobi again...)

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00156z58

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00157xg9

Then a trip to the hardware store to get some flat bar, ready rod, wing nuts, and those wood nuts (the ones you hammer in from the oposite site that have the big teeth that go into the wood). Threaded rod into those nuts, then battery and vaccum tube, flat bar ontop and put on the wing nuts. Then a couple bolts through the wood into the speedi nuts that are in the trunk and you have...

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00158qwp

http://pics.livejournal.com/bun_bun/pic/00159dqx

That one possitive wire there was too short so I had to run it like that... I bought some more wire and plan to run it through the fender (behind the carpet) like the rest.

And there you have it... battery mounted. I have still to put some dielectric compound on that flat bar as it is a tad close to the battery terminals for my likeing.

Really busy at work today so that's all for today :(

Definitely cover that metal plate in some type of insulator!

That is a ticking bomb.

Edit: the ring terminals are like... what... a millimeter away from the bar? Both of them touch and there's your fail.

Yeah the ring terminals are ~3/16" away from the flat bar. Actually they are above. It wouldn't be the ring terminals that touch but the posts of the battery.

And did everyone miss the part of me putting on a dielectric compound? I just haven't done it yet but it is going on. I bought a can of liquid electric tape and will cover the bar with it.

Yeah the gas tank is between the trunk and rear seat (under the spare). Though I am pretty sure it is a pastic tank so I am not too worried about cracking. I also dont crank my subs that much... I thought I was a bass freak but turns out I am not so much so :P (well reletively... my friends would disagree with that statement lol)

Anything that adds weight to then enclosure will only help. Less vibrations the better. The only thing a coating like that MAY affect would be high frequencys. But with the irregular surface even that would be minimal.
