I'm in the process of rebuilding my system and figured why not post a few pics.
There really has not been a game plan..... I'm kind of making things up as I go and hoping for the best. Any reasonable suggestions would be most appreciated.

my system will be installed in my P.O.S. 02 cavalier and will consist of

1-rockford fosgate 3sixty.2
1- set hertz hsk 165 comps
3- rockford fosgate 25th anniversary punch 150's
and a pair of SSA Icon 15's(awaiting recones at the momment.:()

So far I have made some mounting brackets for the hertz mids and my amp rack.
more pics and updates will follow but I don't have alot of time to work on my car
so finishing this will be slow going.

Here is how I made my caveman brackets.

Started on the doors today...
Passenger side.

knu Konceptz 12 ga. wire
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21791.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21811.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21821.jpg

4 lbs. of black non-drying clay
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21831.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21841.jpg

The little nylon spacers are to keep the dust cap from hitting the door panel.(for some reason it sticks out a little further than the mounting flange
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21891.jpg

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_21921.jpg
I also added some 1/2" foam to the inside of the door panels (sorry no pics).
So far the doors seem pretty solid.:D

An absolute seal against the speaker baffles and the doors.

Phers1er

It also adds mass/weight...which deadens the sheet metal further.

Looking good for sure. The amp rack is sweet, always nice to see some good craftsmanship going along with some good equipment. Those "caveman brackets" most certainly aren't going anywhere the way you screwed em into the doors. Also very nice touch on the heat shrink on the speaker wire, its little things like that, that show your attention to detail on the install.

What deadener did you use on the doors? Should sound really nice in there.

Got one of my subs ready for recone today. here's a few pics.

First, I taped off the the top plate of the motor to avoid anything getting in the VC gap.
Then I went to town on the back of the motor. (This started out rough.kind of like FI motors).
I sanded it smooth then hit it with 400 grit before I applied the metal etching primer.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_22161.jpg

painted the motor black and sanded all 12 spokes with 120,220,320,400,600,1000,and 2000 grit sand paper.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_22041.jpg

After the 2000 grit wet sand I polished them with mothers aluminum polish and a dremel tool.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_22071.jpg

Then instead of masking the spokes I applied a very thin coat of hand soap to the polished areas and let it dry. This is so the paint will wash off those areas after the paint has dried.(see pics).
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a51/pherzo/IMG_22101.jpg

Here's pics of the finished product after a coat of wax. One down... One more to go.
And yes...they will be mounted inverted.

I removed all of my interior and old wiring today so I could start on the deadening. I finished 3 layers on the fire wall, floor pan and under the rear seats but the trunk and roof still need to be done. I also laid down some 1/2" foam(the same stuff I used on the doors). I made sure to test fit the carpet, seats and panels before I glued it down so I would know where to leave the foam out to avoid fitment problems (This is why it looks patchy).
I wasn't really happy with the way the foam turned out, but I'm sure it will do the job just fine.

my old wires. I plan to reuse most of the wiring with the exception of a few things.

Thanks man^^^^
I ordered the techflex and heat shrink I needed to do the power wire today and figured while I was waiting I could figure out a better way to mount my fuse holder (It was mounted to the under hood fuse cover and was not very stable).
I had a scrap piece of aluminum laying around so I decided to use it to make a little shelf to hold it up.
It still needs some sanding/finishing work and haven't made brackets yet, but here's some pics just to give you the idea.

I haven't decided if I'm going to polish it, paint it black and only polish the bevels (like the subs)or brush the top/sides and polish the bevels.
any opinions???^^^
btw:I'm not sure if I'm going to use the old fuse holder yet thats why I made it a little bigger than I needed.

I really have not been working on the car lately but I'm hoping to get all the power wire run some time this weekend.
I was bored today and decided to yank out my old yellow top a clean it up a bit(The wiring looks pretty good so I could not bring my self to just leave it). I put it in the car when I bought it new in '02 and I had not touched it since. Its still going strong after almost 6 years and I probably will not replace it until I have to.
I'm hoping to pick up a couple more for the trunk in the near future.

Bought some new mids really cheap that I always wanted to try out. They will be mounted in the kicks until I decide If I like them or not... Or until I can afford hertz space 8's or HV 200's What ever comes first.
I will be making aluminum trim rings for these that match the fuse holder mount/subs and flush mounting the illusion grills into them.
The kick panel pods will be mdf/fiberglass and will be made to accommodate a larger mid.
The larger baffle will be offset by the aluminum trim ring so it does not look funny.

Got a little done today. I made a bracket out of mild steel and painted it so I could mount the fuse holder and ran some wire.
Heres some pics of the fuse mount and battery installed. The air filter should tuck right under the fuse holder.

Edit: My old air filter fits pretty good but it needs to be replaced soon(theres only about an inch or so in between the fuse and filter).

I want to start on the enclosure soon, I'm thinking around 8cf tuned to 34hz. I'll be removing the back seat and would like to keep the box below window level by using the part of the trunk to accommodate the enclosure.
not sure if I'm going with aero ports or a slot port.
Any opinions or input on the use of one or the other???
Thanks in advance...

If you don't have experience building ported and want the easiest way I would go with slot port, aeros aren't as easy as you would think.

But from looking at the rest of your install I would do the aeros just for the better looks. Seems like you have all the tools to make an easy job out of about anything :)

Yeah do aeros, takes up less space, dont need as much port area, and you can change tuning. :D

Not much, been lazy/broke lately. I did finally get a deal on the recones worked out with team psi and they should be completed soon. I sold the Illusion mids and plan on going with hertz hv200's once my budget allows. The rockford fosgate threesixty is also out of the picture because I have decided to go with some audiocontrol pieces I think will suit my install and wallet better.

Seems like you have all the tools to make an easy job out of about anything :)
I wish!! haha, most of this stuff has been done with my trusty old jig saw and router(the only two power tools I own out side of my drill).A few pieces I had to do at work (the RF logo and the angled speaker baffles). But my boss does not seem to like me doing projects on my breaks. So I no longer have access to their tools.:crap:

Yeah do aeros, takes up less space, dont need as much port area, and you can change tuning. :D
Thats what I was thinking. I'm planning on buying a few extra tubes and just experimenting with different tunning frequencies until I come up with something I like.

Also: I wanted to get some opinions on my packing methods before These ship out.(I'd hate for all the work I put in on the baskets and motors to go to waste).
Do I need to pack these in a secondary box with packing or do you think they will be ok as is?
Thanks

Word mang! I just have a ST Focus, nothing special, but it is a sleeper for the most part. I like the fact I don't have people staring at me all the time like I did with some of my other cars. Still have some nice jams and is quick to boot, plus can haul all the baby supplies and groceries, lol!

dislexia WTF!!!

Yo Dave, if I were you, Id flip those subs over before you ship them. The steel motor is a LOT stronger and can handle a lot more shock than the outer rim and spokes of the 15" basket.

Imagine what would happen if you dropped it from 10ft high, in no box at all. If the motor hit the ground, although probably getting a decent ding in it, it would probably live and be able to continue on its legacy.

Drop it on the basket? :(

Heres a short video to explain.... :D

Thanks to all for the kind words!!! There has been a change of plans again. The doors will be redone, The hertz Hv 200 8's are out and a set of peerless sls 10" I received in a trade (they will be here on tues, I'll post pics when they get here) are going in the doors. The 6.5's from the HSK set are going in the kicks.
The signal processing will be handled by an audiocontrol EQX(also traded). Going active has crossed my mind but it is dependent on whether I can buy back my matching punch 45 and 75 from my dad at the prices he paid me for them. He also has a 150 but I think its going to be a little too much power for the hertz 6.5's
(+plus he's using that one).

I'm really not sure about the peerless vs. the hertz 8's but so far this route has cost me nothing out of pocket except shipping which is a plus because I'm broke as s**t at the momment.

Got the peerless sls 10's today and they are perfect! But there is no way they are going into the doors. If I had power windows it would be no problem because the shaft for the window handle would not be in my way. So, instead I came up with an Idea to do some large pods that open up into a shallow false floor up front. Which brings us to my question????? Has anyone else heard of and or done something this drastic to get the proper air space for their speakers up front???

I was thinking of going mostly MDF with maybe just a little bit of glass on the baffle wraped in vinyl. But nothing is set in stone(my mind changes like the wind).
Nothing much going on with the car right now I've been really busy. But I did get the EQX I was talking about a few posts back. Its pretty old but seems to be in perfect shape and all controls are the same as the current model. I traded a couple video games and some 6x9's for it locally:D.

Nah... I been really busy with work and family. I did get started on a cover for the eq though.
I plan on boxing it in and mounting it on some tracks/rollers in the glove box so it is easily accessible for tunning. Another thought was to mount rubber feet on the bottom of the eq box and neatly bundle all of the wires in tech flex. Then I can just pull it out of the glove box and adjust it in my lap.

Also, I got started on a graffiti piece for team psi last weekend.
How is this related to the build??????????????
I am trading it and one other small piece for my recones so I have to get them done before I start on any major projects.
